What makes the same clichéd episode structures and situations enjoyable? I think it has to do with character development. That's what I feel attracts people to long-running/repetitive TV shows, novels, comics, and stories in general. People enjoy Naruto because they're watching a character grow in strength and wisdom, and how that affects his ability to tackle difficult situations. Not only that, there's a larger plot running through the series and while you might think it's boring, others might find it really interesting. A similar sort of concept applies to MLP (I think)

DISCLAIMER: I'm not a Naruto fan, and I don't even think I like him as a character. Just felt like ranting before sleeping :p

This thread wins. I haven't really gotten into Naruto myself, but I'm not really gonna judge those who do. After all, I watch a cartoon about pastel-coloured horses going on an adventure and bowing to a sun goddess, which is also a horse except with wings and a magical skull tumour.
