What do you like about your hometown? What DON'T you like?

What do you like about your hometown? What DON'T you like?

Simple enough, post what town you live in and some things you like and don't like about it.

I'll start.
I live in Toowoomba, Queensland.

One thing I like about it is we have a really good arts presence. We have a really great theatre and we hold one of the largest Drug and Alcohol Free music festivals in the world.

But we're notorious for having a Central Business District full of (sometimes violent) douchebags. I have to take a side entrance to the mall to avoid being sworn at. The upside to that, when they play classical music outside of the mall, they leave. It's cartoon logic in real life.

Edmonds, Washington

Likes:
-My hometown is, well, home-y. I don't really desire to live somewhere fancy later in life. I'll probably come right back here<3
-My hometown is mostly full of nice people. No one shoves you out of the way in a hurry to catch the next subway, largely due to the fact that there are none.
-My hometown has great food!
-My hometown is near Seattle, so even if I got bored here, I could just take a twenty minute drive to the city and do something else.

Dislikes:
-It is cloudy like 75% of the time here.

I visit the theatre every so often. Plays are cool, I saw a Monty Python one called Spam-A-Lot which was brillaint.

My town isn't big with sports, we have a team, just not a very big/important one XD

I don't have a hometown (or if I do I don't know which it is and don't live there) but the current location of my home is Jakarta, which is dirty/really polluted, has really bad traffic, flooding problems, is hot and humid and is surprisingly lacking in things to do (compared to a US or even European City of comparable size). On the plus side, it isn't Beijing.

As far as another one of my homes:

LA is pretty crazy.

Likes:
-Nobody really gives a fuck about what you do
-Diversity
-Everything is a fairly convenient car ride away
--Alternatively, using the metro system can take you basically anywhere as well (and half the time you can ride for free because nobody cares)
-It's never too cold do go out and do stuff
-Lots of crazy indie shops
-Being a starving artist is doing it right

Dislikes:
-It turns into Hell during the summer
-It almost never rains, and when it does, people drive like idiots
-Being on the Pacific Ocean means that going to the beach to swim is kind of stupid

I live in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It's great 'cause downtown there're all kinds of free art galleries and we're home to the second-best tuba player in the country (officially) and we're the zombie capitol of the world, but the homeless numbers are off the charts and Homewood (the Pittsburgh ghetto) is just a really bad place to be. I live in Squirrel Hill (a rich neighborhood), so I can't go much into detail, but some friends of mine live in Homewood and talk about hearing gunshots damn near nightly.

Also there's no way to dress for the weather. One day it started off with a sunny sky and a temp of like 70 degrees, but then by the afternoon it was overcast and snowing.

Mein Hometown: Holden, Massachusetts (it's near worcester)

Me gusta:
Most of my friends live nearby
My school is only 20 minutes away (walking), plus it's a regional school
I live in the center of everything, esp for the surrounding towns
Lots of upper middle class stoners
Literally no danger of walking around at midnight, nobody's ever been mugged.

No me gusta:
It goes from like -10 F in the winter to like 95 in the summer.
Everything closes down by like 7
Very little diversity (80-85% white)

Born in Everett, WA, lived in Seattle until I moved to Florida when I was about a year old.

Seattle is a really pretty place! The weather was super nice when I went back in comparison to Florida. I'm going to move there after I graduate so I should be settled in maybe this time next year (with luck).

I think the rain is even nice.

Which brings me to Florida. Fuck Florida. Terrible people in my town. It's just gross around here. Lots of crime where I live and there's fucking nothing to do unless I want to drive out an hour and spend all the money I have on one night. And the weather is terrible too. Thunderstorms scare the shit out of me, I hate the heat, and just ewww the humidity kills my hair.

I've lived in Brodheadsville, PA my entire life.

Dislikes:
-Weather. It's really cold in the winter, and usually gets really hot in the summer.
-There is literally nothing to do. The only 'entertainment' in my town was a bowling alley that recently closed because no one went bowling there, all the stoners just smoked outside.
-The amount of abandoned buildings. They all have like, peeling paint and bashed in windows, and make the down look really ugly and dead.

Likes:
-School. A lot of people hate the district I go to, but compared to some of the other schools I've heard about, I love it. Plus they have a decent music program.
-The size. It's small, you know everyone. I'm fine with suburban/urban areas, but I'd rather be in a more secluded environment.

This might help you get an idea of what I mean by small. And that's considered 'in town.'

Stockholm, Sweden
Love it cause:
1 Cold winters, usually between -5 and -15 celcius (and summers are almost always under 30 8-) ). I love cold weather and snow cause... It makes everything so much more fresh. It could have something to do with my pollen allergies, so it's the only time I don't constantly have a runny nose or itchy eyes... Or it could be that I just love skiing that much.
2 Since it's a big city I'm always less than an hour away from basically anything I could ever think of buying.
3 I'm a fucking Swede and proud of it!!!

Hate it cause:
1 The only pony merch is the official stuff. How I wish we had a Hot Topic
2 Swedish peope are gennerally boring and unsocial (and mostly hipsters imo)
3 The only brony convention so far, a fairly small one, around 100 attended last time. There's gonna be another bigger one in Gothenburg, Crystal Con, but that's on the other side of the country!!! Imo worth it, but i doubt mom would let me :c

I forgot I really don't like the fact that there is NO public transportation anywhere in Austin, which would have been fine maybe 20 years ago but now that the city is pretty huge it really needs one. So I have to bike everywhere which is fine unless summertime, and then we have to drive places and kill the environment.

Also, all you guys complaining about hot weather... Just don't go to Texas. You will die. It goes up to like 100 degrees in March and stays that way until November. And it NEVER rains.

Stockholm, Akersberga, Sweden
why do i Love it?

1. Spring comes early here :3
2. I live near the beach.
3. many of my friends live here.
4. I live pretty near to my school, about 30 min or so.
5. SWEDISH MEATBALLS :3
6. IKEA :D
7. Stockholm have everything except brony t-shirts and such, which sucks a little.

I hate it because:
1. There is a lot of criminals living here.
2. winter comes to damn early, and when it comes it gets to cold.
3. There are not many conventions here. As FLAOFEI said there is one in stockholm and one in Gothenburg
4.
My Soundcloud for my Wip's and Previews, but also full songs.

Well, Astoria is a quaint little town. It's beautiful, for starters. Hardly touched by civilization. It's just a logging and fishing town. I like that. It's simple and boring.

I feel like it's a retirement home from the late 1960/80s.

There are hippies and Joan Jetts and stoners everywhere, and they're all either 13 or 70 years old.

Holy cow, I'd kill to meet a matured brony here.

You live so close to me. :P

Rhinelander, WI

Pros:
- No one cares about you, so if you're on the anti-social side or prefer to be left alone, it's nice.
- Everything is organized in some decipherable way. Though there are some exceptions. *glares at poorly placed schools*
- Schools have gotten a lot better, though there are still problems. No bomb threats anymore.
- There are only a few homeless people that I'm aware of.

Cons:
- A gigantic country music festival happens once a year. If you like country music, you'll be happy. If not, you have nothing else.
- The creative community is non-existent.
- The elderly to others ratio is completely off. Most people graduate and leave.
- Nearly no racial variety. Mostly white people here.
- If you're social, then this town is not for you. The people here like to keep to themselves.
- Ice cold winters, warm summers.
- The school district is incredibly wasteful.
- If you're out of town even slightly, good luck getting internet that's not dial-up.
- Little technological or creative influence. This shows well on our school classes. 10 classes in both those categories total, 20 in engineering, 8 in other.
- Horrible tourism. At least to me.
- Our mascot is an imaginary animal with no basis in reality.

I can't wait to move.

Well, I live in Richmond BC, but I technically just say Vancouver because I'm right next to it.

Things I like about my city:
- The media industry, arts, music, sports, so forth.
- The ethnic diversity in my city, lots of different cultures, which in turn adds to a lot of neat places, events, and people to meet.
- Rain, rain rain, it rains about 9 months a year here, and I love my rain, I also love the rare thunderstorm more :)
- I guess I should add I live near Studio B, which if you didn't already know, is the studio that creates MLP.

Things I dislike:
- Snow, rarely do we see snow where I live, the lower pacific mainland of Canada is probably the one place in Canada that sees little to no snow.
- Oddly enough, the multiculturalism is also a bad thing. It's harder to find jobs here now for a lot of people, some other people, who live here have not learned either of our countries languages, which I disagree with (English or French), and if you've ever lived or visited Vancouver or around the area in general, we have some of the, if not the worst drivers in North America because of it (No, I am not racist, this is just the truth).
- We have one of the most expensive retail for housing in the world, that would be thanks to the inflation from the Olympics.
