So I'm graduating Highschool in less than 7 months

So, I'm gonna be dumped into the real world practically overnight pretty soon. So I'm just curious, do those of you who've graduated Highschool have any words of wisdom? Or just some general advice? It's kind of a disconcerting thought, and I always feel better about things if I can get some advice from someone who's already been through something I'm about to go through.

Consider further education. Don't feel pressured into getting a job straight away, and don't feel pressured into choosing a specific subject because your family or peers think it's best for you. You shape your own future.

Don't just go back to school to go back to school, I know many people that have, and end up switching courses, KNOW what you want to do BEFORE you do it.

Don't second-guess, ask yourself if it's right for you, If it's what you really want to do. If you have even the slightest doubt. Reconsider your options. I'm 21 and have been out of school for 3 years, I am saving money with a job for school while still deciding, and I'm finally certain of what I'm going to go for.

Make sure the career you are shooting for has the proper prospects for a long, secure path. You can take the risk, but always make sure there is a plan B. Look into it first, make sure you know as much as possible about the career for after you get your degree/certificate.

Be patient, you are younger than you think.

Find the nearest studio to where you're going to college and request to do volunteer work there for free while you're in college. It's great, because you'll have a really good chance of getting hired by them when you step off the graduation platform with your degree (whatever degree that may be).

If you aren't going to try and aim at getting a job in a studio, then at least try and get some volunteer work at a type of business that you do want to work at. It'll get you a good shot of getting the job after you graduate.

You're Australian? Enjoy three-four months of vegetation, get ATAR in December, cry tears of joy/disappointment, get into uni/TAFE/find a job, study/work 5eva

General advice: when you pick what you want to do, choose what YOU want to do, not what anyone else says you should do. Whether that be university, TAFE or anything else, make sure that you won't be regretting not taking another path; speak to careers teachers, have a long think about what you enjoy doing at school, what you're good at etc. Just remember, there's something out there for everyone :)

Yeah higher education is something you've either decided to do or ruled out (and absent from your post). Just make sure it's financially feasible for the full term, something you want to major in, and going to fit your life plan whatever that is. Graduating high school is only the tip of the iceberg and if you don't have something already lined up as a job you'll likely be starting with e pretty low skill set. If you have something you can get hired in immedaitely (friend's referral or family business) and it will progress quikcly you have a little more time to determine if you want to take your time on higher education.

I will say just having a college degree will still open doors to unrelated fields that you didn't major in but keep in mind that even having a college degree often means you have 0 experience when entering the job field so keep that in mind. See if you can have a bit of both (education and job experience) to really do whatever you put your mind to.

Words of wisdom? I have none.

I can suggest things, however.

Find a job. Doesn't really matter what it is - it will be beneficial to you to have some sort of income. I suggest that you seek higher education. You should find something that you want to do and pursue education in that area. It's getting harder and harder to forge a path for yourself without a college education these days.

fweh. I've bummed myself out.

Thanks for the advice guys, and yeah I'm thinking of secondary Education through TAFE and the like, and possibly a university course later down the road.
