2013 in Music

I was listening to this and got me thinking: What are people on this forum looking forward to musically this coming year?

You mean like know upcoming releases? TBH what's going to be interesting will be new bands, genres, or movements we won't be expecting. You can't really talk about what we'll hopefully be blindsided by.

Anything really. But I agree that the stuff that we don't see coming will be the most interesting.

Hilltop Hoods and The Cat Empire are releasing new albums.
New movements that come out of the blue are exactly what I'm NOT looking forward to, but I can only hope it's something good, at least.

Well, I'm gonna be the obvious guy, Alex S's EP. Also more stuff from Porter Robinson, and Knife Party. Skrillex I'm not so excited about anymore :/

Odyssey put out My Life as a Pixel Vol. 2 tonight. I probably won't get around to buying that until the new year so let me pretend that counts as something for 2013.
Aside from that, I'll have to agree with 9v and say new genres. Always excited to hear something totally different from before.

On a personal note, I'm looking forward to another year of (at least hopefully) improvement.

I think trap will gain more ground, dnb will fade into obscurity, rock will continue to wither, and the first true english vocaloid will be created.

We'll see more brony musicians being signed, and this, combined with the rest of the good artists of the fandom being forced to move on by personal projects, will either cause the rise of new artists or the extinction of brony artistry and music.

The music industry along with other industries will again try to introduce a SOPA-like bill into the Supreme Court, and it will again be destroyed by people who value freedom, i.e. people.

Renard will continue to make great music yet live in relative obscurity as the king of his many niche genres.

I will continue to give my money to Renard.

Live preformances will become crucial to keeping a band alive.

Music will become even more indie as hipsters slowly run out of genres to invent.

Pop music will get even stupider and more vile.

Gangnam Style will continue to be a fad, now that it has been seen by 1/7 of the world's population.

People will still do the fucking dance.

Lil B will ascend to his rightful place as #BASEDGOD, ruler of the Swaglords.

Hussie will finish Homestuck, causing a new influx of people in the poni fandom as people wait for Hussie to start a new project.

Some one will die from twerking too hard and mothers will try to ban all booty-shaking music.

Tumblr will, by accident, invent a new genre.

And finally, Skrillex will drop the bass. Again.

Everything Vladnuke said.

Also, a "new" genre will appear, or at least something slightly different, and no matter how shit it sounds or how stupid it is, it will gain a new following by folks who think it's cool because it's unheard of and totally not mainstream. Then it will grow to be the next big thing.

I think there's already enough music that's been produced in the past that can last any human on the planet with ears their whole lifetime.

And dammit, I really hope Eurobeat picks up. Odyssey's music is just so awesome and inspiring and has so much potential to be the next big thing instead of something terrible.

Horsedick.mpeg moves on from a joke and produces a full album. People defend how meaningful the lyrics and music are to them in face of outside opinion.

And yes, that's the name of a real band, lol. Well, sort of...

Actually, real fucking prediction right here:

They're gonna play Gangnam Style at the New York New Year's Eve ball drop as soon as it drops. I swear to Christ they will. And when they do, it will be posted on youtube. Then the riots start.

"We just wanted to appeal to the kids..." Says the show producer.
"Oh god plz don't hurt me" says Nikki Minaj, the host of this years ball drop.
"Wtf is going on" says a bunch of parents as they watch the gangnam for the first time and forward it to their friends.
"Goodbye cruel world" says PSY as he kills himself, no longer able to face the fact that he had done the unthinkable: create the world's catchiest song.

Yeah, that sounds about right. More or less.

One Direction will break up as its members put their fame and fortune in front of their friendships.

Trap will continue to be a pile of shit.

Glaze will continue to procrastinate on music.

Tomb may or may not get better.

Gangnam Style will be forgotten (this is more of a hope).

Skrillex will release his new album which will contain songs so well produced that they will form a singularity where the rule 'nothing is perfect' will cease to function.

Skrillex and deadmau5 will finally collaborate, but not on a song. They will create a bass-based doomsday device and use it to heartlessly murder Taylor Swift and her legions of fangirls.

The Jonas Brothers will continue to be irrelevant.

New dance to replace Carameldansen as the most annoying best dance ever made. And more remixes of it than of Rainbow Factory.

Furries in a Blender will still be better than Renard.

Tosin Abasi will continue to be amazing.

Glaze will leave the fandom.

Tombstone will create a new modern talking.

Omnipony will continue to use the same Massive patches that he has always used.

Pop music will suck even more than last year.

Silva Hound will whore himself out to every musician possible, and eventually collaborate with One Direction, thus ending his days of making music.

New dubstep subgenres.

Trap will go 200% hipster.

Alex S. will continue to hide how he makes his basses.

Lavender will scare away every newbie producer from MLR.

Interrobang Pie will become an MLR mod and MLR will become the next 4chan.

Skrillex will attempt trap music.

YeahDubz will collab with Skrillex.

Procrastination.

More procrastination.

Dream Theater will attempt to make dubstep in 29/32 at 257.7385bpm, and it will be amazing.

All of my yes. I can even deal with Glaze leaving the fandom as long as he still makes music.

On the subject of irrelevant bands of brothers (no, not THAT band of brothers) have we all finally forgotten the Naked Brothers Band? Because I haven't and you are not allowed to either.

ok, so here are my predictions.

North Korea will do something dangerous...again...and it may or may not blow up in their faces.

Tombstone's remix album will probably be kinda average (his work lately hasn't been great, my hopes aren't soaring).

I'll continue to live in musical obscurity and continue to be just fine with that.

Skrillex will either get much better or much worse.

Dr. Dre will make headphones out of rare Hostess Cakes and they will sell for millions.

Japan will continue to build nuclear power plants in insanely unsafe places

Pop was ALWAYS shit. ALWAYS.

One Direction will continue to be sung BY EVERY SINGLE GIRL IN MY SCHOOL.

Gangnam Style will STOP BEING A THING. Can that please happen?

Psy will release another thing, it will be nowhere near as popular as Gangnam Style, and he will realize that people never cared for him. Just that one song.

People will stop preaching love and tolerance and then go contradict themselves by hating on cloppers or something like that.

The next batch of freshman baby highschoolers in my school will be even more bratty than the last batch.

I'll sever ties with all the people I hate in life (one of my goals).

People will get bored of dubstep and Electro House will get bigger...or trap if I wanna be pessimistic about it.

Since people are doing predictions here's mine (with an unhealthy amount of wishful thinking thrown in).

Gypsy Punk will become super popular, like 3rd wave of ska level of popularity (Wikipedia claims that it already has high popularity but I don't believe it).

Reggae/Dub Metal will be something outside of a few random bands.

Someone will discover "the new amen break" and all DnB will continue to sound the same.

"The Invisible Way" will be better than I expected.

Pop music will continue to be the same as it has been for the last 60+ years and people still won't realize it.

Trapcore: Like Crunkcore but with Trap instead of Crunk (I masochistically want to see this happen)

Despite not being nominated "Guilty Pleasurez" by Brokencyde will win a Grammy for the Album of the year.

Brostep/Electro-house/Complextro/Moombahcore etc will all become so mixed up that they become one genre: Moombrolectrocore.

More Sludge Metal/Dubstep fusions.

Merzbow and or Genesis P-orridge gets a lifetime achievement award from someone/something.

The Rolling Stones break up.

Nirvana will be chosen to be inducted in the 2014 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Ceremony.

What I am looking forward to most is MGMT will finally release their new album.
