When MLP:FiM ends...

Sports, politics, movies, videogames, questionable hobbies, photos from your family vacation, etc. Talk about stuff that isn't ponies or music. But do try to stay on topic and respectful of alternate opinions.

When MLP:FiM ends...

Postby Motivfs » 21 Nov 2012 18:15

I was just wondering today, what would happen to all the musicians, artists, PMV'ers, fanfiction writers, etc.. When well.. The show ends? I mean the fandom might last on for along time after, I'd think it would start to die down very quickly though.

Lets say the show stopped after Season 4, there was a movie, and that was it. It was done.

Now in terms of music, I'd like to think most people here have made some sort of pony-related music. I also think that it's easily safe to say that most who have gained subscribers on their YT channel, or followers on their FB page/Soundcloud have benefited from pony music, and pony music alone. I think most people within this site who have any subscribers at all thrive off this fact, some however, including me, see that pony music isn't the only music out there, and that we are all free to produce what we want, regardless of who the subscribers are.

I would also like to believe that most people make music for fun, or even if they are seriously producing it, they are not doing it for fame in the fandom only, because that is the wrong reason to make pony-related music in my opinion.

So then, if the show stops. and the fandom begins to die, what happens to people like Alex S., Tombstone, Glaze, etc.. Do you think they will lose a majority of their subscribers, or if not, the interest in their non-pony music clearly already shows WAY less views then pony-related music.

Would you still remain subscribed to them? For me, I only really listened to people who's style might one day relate to mine when I am good enough to sound design properly. Thanks to Alex S. and the "Party with Pinkie" song he had released, I became a brony, it also motivated me to produce music along with Camo & Krooked.

In terms of people I am subscribed to and will stay subscribed to, that would be Alex S, Glaze, Lavender Harmony, and Princess Addictia. Because these are people who I could say, inspire me within the fandom, as well as the music they make, I quite enjoy.

The fandom will fade. In inevitable. But it's not exactly a sad thing, it's just how life is. Think of the fandom as your friend in high school that you slowly stop talking to as years pass. Eventually you'll no longer talk, but you still have the memories and experiences.

The musicians will keep on writing and producing if they're real musicians. The writers will find something new to write about if they're real writers. And so on, and so forth. We'll all find new communities built on different ideals, but we'll still be doing what we love.

As for those who are only in this for the show and the community, well, they can always find another cult show to get into. TV's not as barren a wasteland as they might like to believe, and it'll be the same people working on it all for a while hence (Faust's got new stuff in the works, the VAs juggle gigs for a living, and so on).

It'll all work out.

Wrong subforum... would probably be better in the mlp subforum.

But, as for what will happen to the fandom, it'll die down, of course. Musicians won't just magically lose subscribers. People subscribe to them because they make good music, not because they make pony music. If that were how it worked, I'd have a lot more subscribers right now :P Artists would continue to make art, but draw other things besides pony. Other aspects of the fandom would also die down. But the show will make it much farther than season 4. I think that the writing board will eventually start making episodes based on fanfics. I predict to be watching episodes come out well into my 20's, and I'm almost 16 right now. If anything, people will start to lose interest in the show before it even ends.

The fandom will noticeably shrink after the show stops producing new content, but it won't stop going on for quite a while.

If the fandom were to die, I would still be following the pony musicians, as long as they produce good content I don't really care where the inspiration comes from.
I like to think I'm well-rounded because I'm not really good at anything.

Eh, I felt it was better suited for the off-topic forum, it's not really based around the show in general, the show is just a part of the topic, but if it's moved, no biggy.

Anyways. In response to what you said, I actually think a majority of the subscribers of certain brony musicians are just in it for the pony music, I'd like to say about 50% infact, but that's pure guess. I've read comments on YT where in their non-pony videos, there are people who demand "MOAR PONY MUSIC". I think lots of people will lose their subscribers, if not, their fan-interest whenever the show/fandom ends.

I think only true musicians/music junkies will stay with those who are good at what they do, regardless of what happens. Only because they understand it's good music, regardless if it's pony-related or not.

To add on, the music in the fan-base is somewhat losing interest already, and I believe that's because of the mass amount of music that just keeps coming out.

On your second question: why on earth would I unsubscribe to someone who makes awesome music that I love?

Also, I don't dread the supposed decline many bemoan. Look at Firefly. It had like only 1 season, and it has a ridiculous amount of fans, and I'm almost annoyed how much they're into it whenever the subject comes up.

I do agree with your statement, however, I still think many just subscribe because he/she is a brony, and in turn, those people might not unsubscribe, but just not give a damn anymore.

Most of my subscribers came for my ponies in real life videos. As I've been making less PIRL videos, and more music, I've been gaining subscribers at a slower rate, but most of my subscribers seem to just enjoy my content overall.

Of course, there's a couple who've started disliking any new song that comes out. Like clockwork. I upload a song, 1hr later, 2 dislikes. Upload a PIRL video, 0 dislikes.

So, a couple immature subscribers here and there, but overall I get a lot of positive feedback on both my videos and music, and am thankful to have a great subscriber base.

Almost lost track of the topic.

Whole point I'm making, is the people who subscribe to you aren't all one-sided folks. In fact, the vast majority of them probably enjoy a video parody, animation, or something else from time to time. As long as you stay engaged with your fan base, the majority will stick with you. Tombstone had about 50k subscribers when he started altering his style and doing more non-pony projects. Did people mass unsubscribe him? Nope. In fact he has 80k now.

I would hazard a guess and say that if the show were to discontinue, and the fandom slowed down, the majority of fans would still stick with you as you move on to bigger and better things. In fact, I'd follow my favorite musicians more closely than before, to see if they end up making it into the record labels.

I feel the end of MLP and the eventual fading of the brony fandom would benefit a lot of the artists, musicians, writers, etc. It'd force them to find other things to get inspired by, and would certainly benefit them in the long run.

If they drop out, they probably weren't all that into whatever they were doing to begin with. I know it's been stated already in this thread, but it's true.

And while I believe the fandom will die down, I think the community will stay strong. We've all made at least a few friends through this common interest, and I'm certain we would continue to be friends when the show ends.

Pretty much everything that's already been said here, but yeah. My thoughts.

If the community fades, the majority will not be interested anymore, so when it does happen, you won't care. Enjoy : D

It will go on for quite awhile after it fades or the series stops. There's a stronger chance that people may lose interest in the musical side quicker as there is a huge difference between enjoying a pony image you see that takes 5 seconds to approeciate vs a song that takes 5 min to hear in its entirety. When EQD does pictures of the day it could take 2 min to view and a music of the day spotlight could take an hour and half to listen to in its entirety. There's just so MANY musicians active in the community now. Expect yearly ponycons to keep going after as people go to relive it and for interest to go quite awhile after the series ends but think of the creativity of any new music during that time to repeat some of the "drought of ideas" that happened during this last summer without any new ep's.

I do agree that maybe you, I and many other musicians would stay with the musician fan-base, but I just feel that too many people are just subscribed for the sake of being subscribed. You can just see the interest in pony music dropping each and every day, because of the influx of pony music just being so much.

Like I said, it's not exactly that the person will lose subscribers, it's that the person will just not watch their videos anymore.

Yeah, that's kind of where this idea spurred from, the recent drought during the summer, as well as I just noticed an overall decrease in interest for music from the fandom. I believe you were spot on with the music vs. art as well.

I haven't had the time to read most of the above posts, so forgive me if I'm just restating what someone already said.

The fandom is going to die at some point. No doubt about it. But the musicians and writers and all those people, if they're truly what they say they are, will continue to make music or to write or whatever. They will probably even gain bigger audiences, if their music is actually good.

I agree with Motivfs, pony music is dying. Not to say there isn't wonderful music still being made, but interest is dying, and there are (mostly) no more people joining 'the greats', ie the group of the most popular musicians like Alex S, Glaze, Tomb, EB, H8_Seed, Silva, etc. This is partly why I choose not to make pony music (except remixes), because nobody really cares anymore.

Once the fandom dies down, I will remain subscribed to most of those people who I am subscribed to, simply because I enjoy their music. It's unfortunate that their non-pony music doesn't get the attention it deserves, though. Take Glaze, for example. Lost on the Moon has probably 300k views at this point, whereas Pixel Rush, an equally good song that was release quite a bit before, has probably 50k, just because it's non-pony.

The end of My Little Pony would be nothing compared to the cancellation and END of "Firefly." Not too concerned about it.

As for the musicians, I don't give a fuck what they make music about, as long as they keep making music that's fucking good.

For the video editors, I hope they go on to make awesome stuff as well. Same for the artists and fanfic writers, although I never cared for fanfiction.
