help me decide please?

Postby Facade » 09 Jul 2012 00:14

for a while I've been trying a lot of genre's basically just to find out the one that fits me best(i guess). I've tried everything from ambient to hardcore and now i think i finally found the one i want to do but there's just no popularity in the genre at all. so i'm trying to decide weather i should stick with this genre and only make music in this genre (and maybe make music in other genre's every now and then) or should i look for another one? what would you do?

p.s. the genre is chip tune I've had many people tell me that i'm amazing at it and that i should just stop everything and focus on this.

Dude, make what you want! Just because a genre isn't popular doesn't mean you shouldn't do it. Make the kind of music that you want to make.

I've listened to your stuff. You do good at Hardstyle the best. You are good at making catchy melodies that would fit Happycore too.

Brother, let me tell you, don't let a genre hold you down! Make music that SOUNDS GOOD to you. I promise you there will be an audience that appreciates it. Personally, I am all about the electro and trance scene. I would LOVE to combine country and electro, and one day I hope to popularize that genre. Experiment, do that which is YOU.

In fact, as embarrassed as I will be due to my insanely deep radio-announcer voice, I am working on an original vocal mix. It's not something I'm good at, but I ENJOY it. And that is where it counts. Pour your heart and soul into your music. People will notice!

You do Hardstyle well, but I think the kicks in 'Yay' took away the catchyness of the lead. Not trying to put it too harshly, but they kinda ruined the song.
Yeah, Make Hardstyle, just try to make leads that are as Hard as the drums.

I just listened to Ode to Pain and let me tell you... I am hooked. Right at 2:15, that got me right in the sweet spot. Great work.

Look up the band Beats Antique if you're having questions on whether or not a particular genre is popular.

They have a record label.
They tour.
And they work with Bassnectar on a lot of their albums.

thanks i might just stick with doing what ever or maybe chose like 2 or 3. jumping from genre to genre is really starting to bug me (i guess that's what it is) so i want to stick to a genre or two.

Im in the do what pleases you boat, if your not having fun making music you not doing it right. If your only after fame/fans and all that stuff, chip tunes will be a tough genre to succeed at.

You could always try some kind of fusion of chip sounds and more popular genres. You could even be known as the guy that mixes chip into everything else (far off, sure, but there are many possibilities).

I find myself jumping from genre to genre quite often, and I find it really fun D: I just like doing new things a lot, so yeah. Just do what you like doing.

If you've found your niche, and genre-hopping isn't fun anymore, then just try working on one genre for a while. If you find that you dislike that genre, then move again. At that point you wouldn't mind switching :D

I hope that helps, anyway. It took me a long time before I found my niche in UKstep.
