Do you also have the feeling, that...

Keep a journal beside your bed.

Problem = Solved.

Be careful though, what you write at 4:00AM may be absolute gibberish at 5:00PM the next day...

True.

But the most ideas come when I'm somewhere else, travelling somewhere, being in an unusual place in unusual time. And the ideas don't feel as great afterwards.

I should start going to sleep and waking up earlier (like 3am to 6am). I've occasionally done it in this summer - with great feelings and results!

Happens all the time (though mostly for stories and stuff in my case), but I don't write them down though. If I get an idea and later on can't recall what the idea was, chances are it wasn't that great anyway.

Contrary to popular belief that it's that I want to stay up and talk with my friends in the US, the main reason I sleep batshit hours is that I'm more creative during the night hours. I learned how to correct my sleep schedule on the fly when I worked at a call centre, so I do fine. <3

I usually don't come up with a good song idea until the early evening, and then I work into the late night trying to finish it.

This is me... all the time.

I'm always at my creative peak just before I go to bed. More than once, I've been so annoyed by a new tune just going through my head, that I have to just... write it down. Which is a small problem because I don't really know how to properly write music on paper, so I end up scrawling down a series of rough notes and chords and hoping that I can assemble it into a slightly more musical state the following day.

I'm lucky in that my most creative hours are typically around noon :D

But it does happen a lot where I'm away from home and I get an idea, so I keep a little notepad with me to write down anything that comes to mind.

I am not a naturally creative person :/. To be completely honest, most of my ideas spring up after I play around in a DAW for a while. Then I'm like, 'HEY, this sounds good!'.

I sleep with guitar and piano close at hand, but if I'm ever far from them in such a state of lethargy, or just that tired that I can't bring myself to ooze out of bed, I just grab my cell phone and record myself humming the melody a few times.

I tend to be most creative when I'm bored, and I'm bored when I have nobody to talk to. So usually, I get the most work done on my songs really late at night. That usually works for me, since my computer is in my room and I can just jot down whatever melodies are in my head with FL Studio.

I have gotten inspiration at rather unfortunate times, though. Like at the beginning of a 3-hour long independence day parade, with no phone, paper, or pencil. (as I mentioned, I get inspiration when I'm bored, and MAN that thing was boring.)
is this thing on?

I've written entire songs in my head before, as I nodded off to sleep. In the morning, I've completely forgotten it.

I keep a notepad next to my bed. When I'm out and I don't have a notepad, I'll tap it out as a note on my ipod or use a voice recording to capture the idea so I can come back to it later.

Sometimes I think of a specific word that isn't very common or think of an object to associate with the idea I have, and later I can recall my idea.
