that's right i said it but you are all probably thinking about piracy oh no no that's where you are wrong. im talking about people stealing tracks not remixing stealing.

the story starts a few months ago when me and senjan started a collab. we worked on it for a long time and we even had aerie flew write lyric for me to sing. time went on and he stopped working on it and i kept going with it. he told me i could finish it if i wanted to. so i did

he basically gave the project to me then turned around and took the melody and some bass synth's i made -.-

I remember this also. This is not a smart way to act, Facade. Posting personal threats on a public board is extremely frowned upon.

I can't have much sympathy for you with that attitude. Thanks for the proverbial slap in the face.

In the meantime, his version of the song was just posted today. Show some patience for him to respond; he may be busy with his day, or he may be trying to size up how he can respond to you without more backlash. Depending on what exactly you said to him, you may have discouraged him from even responding at all.

However, maybe you'll notice that this forum usually doesn't put up with bullshit. Unfortunately, this can seem kind of hostile (especially for those people who take bronies to be just blindly tolerant), so if you don't apprechiate honesty and would rather like some sugar-coated responces, check out another forum.

Well then why would you mention wanting to leave the community in this thread about Senjan and his "theft"?

After all, it was a collab. It doesn't matter if you played the chords out or him. It was a mutual project and you don't have any more rights to finish the track than he has them himself. His track getting more traction has no bearing on the situation whatsoever, and he did credit you as to saying it was originally intended for a collab.

Rather than right of the bat establishing a hostile point of view with the people visiting this thread by saying you might leave this shitty community, how about you let us draw our own conclusions and try to help you? Why did you post the thread in the first place if you think this is a shitty community? Doesn't sound like an issue you would share with shitty people.

It doesn't quite matter if you leave this community, because this is a fairly common occurrence in any music community.

2 musicians work on a song. One stops, or gets held up. They both end up releasing their own versions that have elements of eachother's work, and drama ensues.

So I don't quite get the threat of leaving this community. Any other music community out there is going to have the same issues, only on a much bigger scale.

Think this is bad? At least our community is small enough that any issues of stolen works can be quickly caught. In a much bigger community, you might have someone selling slightly altered versions of your tracks on a bandcamp album and you'll never realize it.

This also illustrates the importance of laying down the ground rules, for any collaboration, such as:

- What order are the musicians listed in the title?
- Who's upload gets sent to EqD?
- If the collab falls apart, can each musician use what they have so far and finish the song solo?
- Is there a deadline?
- Which uploader is preferred for transferring segments?

If you aren't establishing any ground rules prior to embarking on a collab, you're going to run into issues like this.

Facade, as far as I know, he said you could finish the song on your own, but if you didn't lay down any ground rules, who are you to accuse Senjan of stealing your work?

Did you establish that only you would finish the song?
Was it established that you could use Senjan's parts in the song for your own upload?
Was there anything whatsoever (in writing, email, etc.) stating that once the collab ceased, that only YOU were allowed to finish the song, and Senjan could not finish it solo if he wanted?

Unless you clearly established these at the beginning (or when the collab stopped), you're both equally in the right, and equally in the wrong.

not exactly but once it did he said he wasnt going to work on it anymore and that i could finish it if i wanted to

i dislike it because people ignore me people dont talk to me which im ok with by the way but when im looking for constructive criticism and no one even bothers to listen to my music it gets kinda frustrating.

This all sounds vague, and there's no solid stance on the arrangements that you've made with him. It was never stated that he *couldn't* finish it. He may have said that he would stop, but people change their minds, and there's nothing that could rightfully bar him from doing so. Why the lashing out at him over this? It hardly seems justified.

If I were in your shoes, I'd just drop it. Lesson learned, and no friendships have to be ruined over this.
