So how do you react to hate comments on your music?

Sports, politics, movies, videogames, questionable hobbies, photos from your family vacation, etc. Talk about stuff that isn't ponies or music. But do try to stay on topic and respectful of alternate opinions.

So how do you react to hate comments on your music?

Postby itroitnyah » 27 Jun 2012 05:07

For me, being fairly new to music production still, means that if someone posts hate comments on any of my videos, it stands out. Mainly because I don't receive a whole lot of comments on any of my videos. I've only actually had it happen twice, but it's apparently obvious that the person who posted that comment is from funnyJUNK (I'm not a huge fan of that website, if you can't tell).

So tell me, how do you respond?

That's actually a really good idea xD thought about that, but I think that'd just provoke them to comment some more

Do:
- Be civil about it
- Ask for more detailed feedback
- If they can't give any: ignore

Don't
- Rage or get mad!
- Make a huge deal about it!
- Insult them!
- Be a dick!

Haters don't really come back to the video they left hate on.

I might get a little upset, but I usually ignore it or get rid of it if it's bad. Responding is the worst thing to do, unless you're certain it's ignorance and not hate.

I don't get hate comments because nobody watches my videos. Seriously, I haven't reached 800 veiws on 1 video yet.

^Sounds like you need to seek out and submit to Equestria Daily. But beware you'll have to deal with the frequent rejections if more views are what you want.

Regarding the OP, just delete negative comments. If they are constructive then keep them in mind of course of improvement if they are suggesting that, but from what you are saying its best not to have some troll or negative nancy derail your video or cause a disruption do just delete.

I haven't had anybody post any actual hate comments on my videos. Instead I've noticed I have 2 subscribers that will always dislike anything music related, but leave my PIRL uploads alone.

Do I get irked by it? Not really. Frustrating to see 9 likes and 2 dislikes on a new upload, but then that turns into 200 likes, 2 dislikes after awhile.

I just think about how much those 2 music haters don't have a life, and in a way, I kind of pity them.

Thank you. I think I'll submit my chillstep song to EQD when I finish it.

Just keep submitting and don't take the lack of a rejection letter (as they dont' send them) as something to get wound up about. It's like playing the lotto (with slightly better results) so at least then there's still a chance of winning. :D

No reason not to submit, really. Worst that can happen is the song doesn't get featured. Nothing to lose, everything to gain.

It's a very rare occurrence for me, but when I get blatantly hateful comments, I delete the comment (so people don't respond to it) and block the user so they can't post on my content again.

Nothing more to say about it, really.

Someone posted on the Voyage Beat preview, "you make me want to drive a rail spike through my temple"

So I said, "Kay. What about the song? I assume it wants you to drive a rail spike through your temple in a less severe fashion?"

The trick to dealing with trolls is to one-up their comment.

Wow xD all of these ideas! You guys are the best, you know that? Cheers me up everyday to come here. Oh, and a little goofiness:

So I got a comment on one of my songs saying "You should change the name of this song to 'Cows being anally probed by aliens'" so I replied with "how about no" and then he replied too, before I decided to delete his comments and my replies. Well he comments on the video again, telling me that I shouldn't delete his comments because they're "criticism" and that it makes me look like I can't deal criticism so my music will never get good. Of course I can deal with criticism, I do all the time, and am happy to get it and improve. So I sent him a PM mentioning that I know that I'm not very good, and that I'm still pretty new to this. I also pointed out that there's a fine line between insulting and criticism. I now await his "humble" retort.

opinions about how it's going, anybody?

Generally I don't respond at all.

But I had to lock comments on my Pinkie Pie theme for a little while for people flaming not me, but each other.
