Equestrian Hype Records

Welp, someone finally had the guts to actually make a record label for Bronies. It's small, and not a lot of people are signed, but, at least this dude had the courage to take a step forward and actually make his own label!

I, personally, am very hyped for this label! I already signed on, and I believe that this has a lot of potential and worth in the community!

Congrats to Mallard for making that first move!

And, to end, once again, a link to Equestrian Hype Record's Youtube:

I guess my question is what the goal is for this netlabel? Is this a youtube only thing? Are you looking for physical or digital releases (either eps/albums/comps)? are you just trying to find like-minded/skiled artists to organize around?

its a great idea but fill us in a little more about what the scope and rational is :)

Wasn't there talk about forming a proper label for brony musicians a while back? I seem to remember one or two threads with heavy discussion about it, but the details are all fuzzy. What happened to that?

I'm gonna have to second what Bartekko said.

Then again, I was never a fan of record labels in the first place.

Record labels are fine by me, as long as they take a modest cut and don't control the artist...which never happens :/ Unless they're a small label....

Oh hi, this is about me!

Aha, I joined and I didn't even notice.

I think folk are a little unclear of my intentions here, so *deep breath*

Welp, really, I just started this little thing for a bit of fun. I'm a bit of a musicologist, and a huge dance music history nerd. It was originally just going to be for me, so I could put music out under lots of different guises but still have some sort of overarching label, a-la-lapfox, but seeing as people seemed interested in getting things on it, I thought sure, why not.

My whole concept is that it's a fictional label based in Cloudsdale that's been releasing records since electronic dance music first reared its ugly head, but it's been dormant since the late 90s and has only just resurfaced. I've got a big love for older dance, 90s, 80s shit, so I wanted to create such a continuity for the equestrian universe. Surely it must have its own classic dance records, its own history of producers and DJs. The parts of some of which I hope to play myself, putting out my own retro styled dance tracks, and hopefully, I'll have a few other folk on board to fill in on the dance genres I'm not so hot at! Anypony who wants to get on board with this unusual drive, be my guest :D

I chose the name Equestiran Hype as a nod to oldskool producer Urban Hype. Top tunes from that lad.

Apart from that, I'll be putting out non retro stuff too, but it'll all be wrapped up in the guise of records that are actually coming out in Equestria right now, and I'll be writing blurbs for them as such. It also serves the function of pooling subs onto a single channel for us smaller artists. So if you want to be involved, tell us where your producer character is from, give us a bit of a bio and I'll see what I can do!

So yeah, it's a bit of both, all wrapped up in roleplay. Confusing? You betcha. This is really just my little auteur project. There should be a website up soon detailing the full history and lore of all this stuff. :)

Peace,
Mallard.

^Well, that sounds awesome, but even joking-around type RP is not my strong suit...

But considering that this may well be the only way to be recognized, I might as well throw my hat into the ring. So, what, do you want a Youtube PM with all this stuff? Because if I can get in, I'm in.

Oh, sure! The best way to get in touch with me is via skype, though. My username is freestylefarfetchd.

You can also email at

And don't worry about RP not being your strong suit! Really, all we need is a bit of character background so we can place you in time and Equestria, and I can fill in details if need be. ;)

Really? I was doing something similar. I've been writing songs as if mane cast ponies were pursuing musical side projects. The latest one was as if Dash discovered she could do a Brian Johnson, AC/DC voice (much like Janis Joplin trying an Odetta voice instead of her folksinging) and getting her friends together into a band, sort of taking over from what Applejack was doing with country songs. If you wanted to play with that I could do fake press conferences and stuff talking about Equestrian Hype Records.

This is as far as I've been able to get so far- it's not anything like dance music but you have a psychedelic music pony and that's not dance either...

I've been thinking about spinning any non dance stuff people want to put out onto a sublabel. I'll cross that road when I come to it, this is still small time!
