So, I'll get to my "basics and power tips" ableton tutorial series ASAP, so they are the first thing posted when we actually get to the "tutor of the week". <rape face>

Ugh, gtk-recordmyDesktop is SUCH A BITCH. All that visual tearing!

I have to use FFMPEG, which is fine except that it takes a ridiculous amount of CPU, and I have to record my voice at the same time. I'd love to do some videos on using LMMS. I think I have enough experience to really give a good run-through or two.

FORUM TAKEOVER.

Why not just do post-commentary? It might be better, it ensures you don't screw up your speech or whatever.

Well, maybe I can record line-in so that the sound is captured simultaneously and then my voice can be added after, yeah.

200 get.

Also, a community problem: We have many new musicians, which means that they want their music to be better, and that's why many of us post their music in the "completed" section, and their discographies.

It's really sad to see that nopony cares about many newbies' music. Especially when we compare the response amount to any song by one of the more famous/better ones.

I would response to everything by myself, but I don't think I know enough about music to notice things less obvious than i.e. Sudden volume changes.

That's why I post here again. I'd like to ask, if there are ponies that will to listen to one or two songs daily, and post their commetary, even if there's nothing to be improved, because when no one cares, everyone understands this as "my music is bad for some reason, I need to improve, so I'll be noticed"

Even a simple "sounds good" or "<3 the lead" will make the said person feel better, don't you think?

I agree, Bartekko. I'm always encouraging people to post in any thread they can to offer feedback, or for just the sake of approval.
I maybe get 1 or 2 replies to my threads. I think it happens to everyone. This is a small community afterall.

The best button. I make sure I've read all of the posts. I just don't comment all the time because I'll probably post something irrelevant and/or incoherent and I'd become the second incarnation of Bartekko.

It's also a better way of navigating the forum.

I definitely agree with bartekko on this, although i really don't know much about music either and i think my posts would eventually all turn into the same thing and i wouldn't be able to give any good feedback on how things could be improved. I've been hesitating to post on several topics for that very reason, and instead I've just been leaving nice comments on their youtubes.

a great post and from experience i'd recommend that if the community is going to work for new users that its also up to the new users to take active part in it. that means listening to other new artists work and giving input back. i made most of my music on another site and I quickly learned that most of my listeners WERE other artists and the key to getting listens IS listening to others. Its sounds like quid pro quo (*mental image of Hannibal Lecter quote*) but in reality if you're posting music but not listening to other people's work you're not extending the same courtesy you expect. I understand that most people will want to listen to the core artists and the hitz but eventually make time for people in the same boat as your self (and then befriend, collaborate, and remix WITH them)! :P

Yes, this. It's good to know that people are listening to your songs, and it's nice to hear from them even if they can't tell you what needs fixing or anything like that.

Random Suggestion: What do you guys think about having a chat box off to the side for online members to chat in without having to make and lurk a thread?

I was thinking (btw, I'm new here. Signed up in Jan and now doing the balloon party! xD), and forgive me if someone has already proposed this (because I only read the first 4 posts)...

...but maybe their should be an extra section on the site in relation to the music forum where people who are making tracks and want to collab by getting other people to remix them, can post their song before they decide to officially release it (which would be a cool benefit of being a member of MLR) along with ALL the MIDI files and samples used on the track (including the vocals of course), and then anyone who does do a remix can post it on the initial page.

This would really help things get more organised in terms of then posting the original track and the links to the remix's on youtube...

...just a thought....

Site reformation? Seems like the right place.

So I was looking at this thread and started thinking: there should be tighter rules in regards to help threads over in the technique section. If it's something that can be solved by contacting customer support for that product, it really shouldn't be posted. Obviously, grey-area posts like And The Rainfall's from the other day would be exceptions to the rule, but you get the idea.

Just some random thoughts that came into my head, thought I might throw them out here.

Just a Quick Idea!

...

In the technique and help section, why not have it so that when some starts a new thread there, the thread gets sorted into a parent folder which will be the name of the software in concern...

for example...I post a technique thread about how to do something on Ableton Live 8, then someone who only uses FL Studio stumbles onto the thread...this could cause confusion for anyone else who joins in future! Do you get my point?
