Parents reactions to you liking ponies.

Sports, politics, movies, videogames, questionable hobbies, photos from your family vacation, etc. Talk about stuff that isn't ponies or music. But do try to stay on topic and respectful of alternate opinions.

My parents like to poke fun at it, but what parents don't talk shit about their kids' taste in everything? =p Really, why would anyone make a big deal out of watching cartoons. I've NEVER had a problem with anypony for watching FiM.

Also, I got my step brother to start making pony music and drawing ponies... pretty much ponies took over his life, and it's all my fault. (Insert shameless plug here)

Mum: alternates between making bad Fluttershy jokes and warning me not to make myself seem 'weird' in public. WTF is she talking about lol
Dad: pretends he doesn't care, but every time I go to watch an episode or wear a pony shirt around the house I catch him frowning at me.
Brother: converted him. Now he makes music too.
My family is stereotypically Asian anyway though, so I guess I should be glad that this much tolerance exists in my household :P
I worship Fluttershy.

All my friends, family, and schoolmates know.
My family found out because I told my sister and she told them. My friends, I got them into MLP last Thanksgiving.
My schoolmates because I did a research project on MLP.

WELL, my parents have no idea, my schoolmates (except a couple) have no idea, most of my internet friends I have to deny this to, or they'll basically ridicule me for life.

However, I got my cousin on board it about 4 months ago. She used to have schizophrenia (cured now thank god) and we used to watch it together as part of 'recovery'. She loves it. :D Her parents, I think, know, but they expected that from a girl with split personalities. As for what they think of me, they probably just think I was forced along for the ride.

My dad does not care about it, but my mom is watching the episodes together with me every saturday!
My friends in school know about it since 2 of my class mates actualy showed me the show and I held a presentation in my Computer-Science class with Ponys in it.
If you know German and are interested in how it looked like.

It was made in PowerPoint and Google Doc. squeezed it a bit together.

Yay, a German brony, lol. I'm not sure why I get so excited when I find a brony who speaks German fluently, but I do. I'm just taking German now in school, really liking it so far. Even doing a German exchange program that starts next fall :D What part of Germany are you from?

The first episode I watched was actually ironically (I didn't know about bronies yet). My brother and I saw that there was this My Little Pony show on and so we watched like "YEAHH!! MY LITTLE PONY!!!" being all stupid and stuff, and my mom walked in and said "What are you guys watching?" To which we proudly responded "My Little Pony!" She figured we were just being silly (which we were, at the time), and left.

My parents don't know that I watch it seriously even to this day, and my brother and I are both bronies now.

Now that I think about it, we still act the same way when we watch episodes together.

My mother and sister know. Dassit.

I was recording EVERY episode on our Austar (think Australian Tivo), so she asked she asked me why nd I just explained the show and fandom to her. She's kinda used to me having slightly odd habits, so it didn't phase her in the least.

...my sister made a dirty joke about it though XD

Everyone here is so lucky. I couldn't let my parents/brother know, they think I'm messed up for hanging around people younger than me and continually on the internet (think typical internet rapist/groomer cliche). It wouldn't do well to let them figure out I watch a show intended (in S1) for little girls.

And I can explain the above statement.
1. Nobody I know at my age really likes or cares about me. Older people and younger people see things differently about me, so I hang with them. Apparently being in Year 11 should not qualify you to hang around girls in Year 6/7 (for friendship, I wouldn't dare go further). Also I have plenty of friends in years 8-10.
2. I'm continually on the internet for the reasons that everyone else here will agree with me of.
3. They seem to think I've got a real pedophile side to me, which is just terrible.

And that's why I cannot tell pretty much anyone...

Aww? It's just common connotations set out by society. A really awesome example is gamers.

1940s: Master of Monopoly.
1970s: Big glasses, spend hours attaching wires to shit and being outcasted from society.
1980s: Big glasses, fat, live with their mother and spend hours endlessly typing 0 and 1.
1990s: Fat, live in their mother's basement and spend hours stalking little children.
2000s: Fat, live by themselves and spend hours virtually molesting little children over video games.
2010s: Live by themselves and spend hours doing nothing with no life ever.

Now that I think about it, it feels like Darwin's Evolution Theory.... :/
So there you have it. Media and society misrepresent a lot of things.
Probably including me.
And us.
And caring people.
And those who live right regardless of what others think.

my eldest brother introduced me and my family to it, mainly my siblings and my mother. at first I was like "da fuh?" so my friend and I tried the first episode, and we were like....maybe, if I had a wife....but the next day I woke up, and thought "what happens next" and then I watch 10 episodes in a row! my mother soon descibes to me that I use to watch the other my little pony as a kid. which I distinctly remember watching strawberry shortcake so I don't know what she's talking about =\ she still finds me odd, but, it seems I've always been that way.
my dad still has not said a word, he walks in on me, with a blank face, and continues on to his day.

At first they thought I was joking, but then they warmed up to the idea and are perfectly fine with it.

Yay old thread! My girlfriend mocked the show, warmed up to it, got me curious, I warmed up to it, and now we both enjoy it thoroughly. My mum threw me a pony themed birthday party, which was embarrassing as fuck but fun. My nephew this Christmas is quoted as saying "I want to embarrass my uncle, I want to get him something pony related for Christmas." He got me a stuffed pinkie pie, of which I had to open in front of my fairly large family. Fun times.

Most people don't care. Nobody gives a second glance or any remark towards any pony related anything in public either.

It's been over a year, so I don't remember it exactly, but here's the stuff I remember:

Most amazingly by the standards of a lot of you guys, there was pretty much no drama. I just sort of brought it up in the context of a weird behavioral pattern I'd noticed in myself: A lot of the time, upon developing a new interest, I only really do stuff relating to said interest when nobody else is in the room for the first few hours of it, then at some point just start not caring any more. The same thing happened with Team Fortress 2, Fallout 3, and a bunch of other things.

They didn't really care at first, but eventually they got interested; I now have my mother collecting figurines, my father watching season 1, and both of them coming along with me to Bronycon this year.

Here's a thought:
I think most of us would be good fathers/mothers (could be wrong, speak up now)
What would our kids think?

I think mine would be over the moon. Probably share toys, too. AND you could go into a toystore and not look like a creepy guy.

Haha maybe once i'm old enough for a job. And i'm completely not qualified to care for something as needy as a child for more than like a few hours.

But in theory I agree, most of us here are pretty cool.

Also my dad found out yesterday. He didn't care at all. Maybe it's because he watches some ridiculous shows himself.
