I don't know why you're apologizing: change is good.

I can't honestly say I support a forum where pictures of Makkon's chest aren't welcomed in every thread. BUT I'd be happy to tutor people on how to cut tracks up or something \o/. Since that's not much to offer (why I stay out of all technical discussion) I also wouldn't mind producing a short beginners guide for making PMVs (although PPS and Jackle both far surpass me at it).

That's a fair point. Can someone please start work on www.MyLittleMakkonsChest.com ?

But this valuable. Firstly, there is no guarantee that either PPS or Jackle would do
a PMV tutorial, so you presenting one is great.
Secondly, the idea is to get as much information onto MLR as possible. If you held a tutorial,'others could suggest things you hadnt though, thus increasing the overall learning experience.

Thirdly, dont sell yourself short! I love your PMVs!

Not to toot my own horn (rather our horns? We're not unicorns, shit, that doesn't work), but we totes have the best PMV in the remix war, and we all know who is the mastermind behind it~. So yes, I agree with Guy.

If I may, I'd like to inject an idea of having MLR community events. We all participate in the remix war, but how about some community events? I was thinking of a DAW trade-off, for example (this pitch probably deserves a thread to close and say "no" to but OH WELL HERE IT GOES) where community members volunteer to be tutors of trackers or FL type DAWs or Ableton or whatever can be used, and then we'll have newcomers and the usual members alike flocking to maybe chat rooms or something to participate in a big learning environment kind of deal.

I mean, that's just an idea, but the *main point* is that maybe we could stage some community events that foster creativity and improvement, critique and growth!

THOUGH:

Cat, you use a Mac.

Like, none of us use Macs, I think.

So a PMV tutorial on a Mac when very little of us use Macs? Eh... :(

(unless you're doing something any of us could do, like say, gather clips, and cut up and stuff...)

Sorry Aussie, but I don't like this mentality at all. Just because a tutorial isn't applicable to most of us now doesnt mean that it won't be useful to our ever growing community. Look at how many new members were getting in Introductions.

Besides. We could easily take the basics of that tutorial and apply it to our non-Mac stuff, so we're still learning things.

Hahahaha, don't mind them Aussie! Also, any compatibility concerns I have are more centered around software than OS. Adobe Premiere (what I prefer to cut in) is pretty much exactly the same in both Windoze and Maclintosh, but I doubt anypony who needs tutorials from me has both Premiere and Final Cut Pro (what I use for filtering) installed on their computer. It seems like a lot of people use Vegas or w/e instead of Premiere though.

ANYWAYS, the compromise I had in mind was so: I'd mostly just talk about video editing aesthetics and tools that are fairly universal - keyframes, image mattes etc etc. Info on that stuff won't help you if you're using WMM, but I would also review stuff that's just good to keep in mind while you're cutting a PMV to your music. IT WON'T BE WORLD SHATTERING, it'll be more like a list of things to think about doing in case you haven't in order to inspire more people to create visual accompaniment to their music maybe~*~*~*! anyways.

If our tutorials are going to be predominantly in video form (which might be a silly assumption on my part)

Here's an idea: why not have a sort of "My Little Remix Presents" YouTube channel to put all these tutorial videos in, when we're done making them? We could have a small team to manage it, upload videos to it, etc, and then all the tutorials could be in one easy-to-find place, even for people who aren't members of MLR or even pony fans!

It would be something like "Sidechain Compression in Reason -- Senator Myth"... and we could actually make it into sort of a big deal! Offering big diverse tutorials on YouTube for all to see, confuse those who find them by being pony musicians... WE COULD THEN BRONY-FY THE ENTIRE POPULATION OF JUST-STARTING-OUT MUSICIANS.

or something

This is just sort of a random idea I'm tossing up here to see what people think. Not really sure if it would really work, but eh.

You know, personally, I can't memorize most of the information from the video after one watching. So nowadays, I usually take notes while watching the video. I know I'm supposed to (or at least, encouraged to) put the tutorial into practice right then and there, but the reason I take notes is because I can reference them for later. And I don't have to skip back-and-forth on the video when all I need is just one intermediate step I forgot.

Just my three cents.

I'm liking the idea of this Youtube channel thing.

As for what I'd contribute, I could either do; "ArtAttack - Basics of Dubstep/Electro in FL Studio" where I would explain the composition, layering drums, basic EQ, and synth choice; or I could do "ArtAttack - Using Native Instruments Massive", because I seem to be proficient enough with the VST, and it'd be cross-DAW.

just quickly want to put this out here:
i'd suggest stickying a few threads in the community subforum because making new ones cause one cant or don't bother to find the old one is stupid

mainly:
- introduction thread
- contact details thread
- name origin thread
and the how did you get into music thread, which i believe we have two of now.

I really, really like the youtube idea thing. partially because I know that the bronies of this community are really good at making music, and, by extension, teaching music, and partially because ARTATTACK TEACH ME YOUR SECRETS

what's a good screen recorder for mac that can record the screen and just pick up audio straight from the DAW only? i tried out several [i forget the names] and while most of them capp'd the screen with good quality there was no audio. i have a feeling theres nothing wrong and im just computer illiterate.

The problem with a lot of Windows computers, at least, is sound card manufacturers being idiots. They wanted to stop music piracy, so what do they do? They get rid of the option to record the sounds coming from your computer. =/

I'm not sure about Macs, but if that's the case, the workaround depends on your computer and what program you're using. If worst comes to worst, you'll have to buy cables and physically link your headphone jack to your mic jack and record that way.

Also remember that ASIO4ALL is selfish when it comes to drivers, so check to make sure that isn't using your self-recording audio driver.

To record audio from the DAW only, short of muting everything else on your computer, I don't think there's a way to do that.

BE CAREFUL WITH FEEDBACK!

About the tutorial:
I'm concerned about it. Shouldn't someone make this happen already? It'd be sad to see this being planned so much and then just end up dying like some events have before. If we'd make first tutorial/s sometime soon and update the format later on. Like e.g. have first video tutorials (if that's what we use) done and posted on technique-thread and when the site reformation is complete, just move them to the new tutorial-thread.

Maybe we should start choosing tutors now?

And I think the video would be good, because a long text including a lot of technical words would likely just get 'tl;dr'-response even from someones who'd be interested on the subject.

Makkon beat me to it. Whilst we want to keep momentum, we can't rush into this stuff if we want it to badass. And clearly, badassery is our primary goal here.

Moreover though, as far as I'm aware, Makkon et al are bringing about huge ass chances to the site as a whole, which might make our current understanding of Bartekko's Quote Of The Month Tutor Of The Week obsolete.

EDIT: In terms of having one shared Youtube account, we are now the proud owners of MLRTutorials. We can use that, probably.
