Talents and Abilities

Sports, politics, movies, videogames, questionable hobbies, photos from your family vacation, etc. Talk about stuff that isn't ponies or music. But do try to stay on topic and respectful of alternate opinions.

I'm not bad at anything. Neither am I good at anything.

I do rather well with...
- Composing music
- Writing lyrics, poetry, and stories (especially for albums)
- Playing guitar, bass, piano, and singing...hell, playing almost any stringed instrument, really. Banjo was recently learned, and ukulele is next!
- Diplomacy and keeping a cool, logical head with others
- Being a snappy/striking dresser
- Video Games
- Flirting like a gentleman (or so I sometimes believe)
- Being reclusive
- Snarky/Glib remarks

I suck kentucky-fried testicles at...
- Going easy on myself when I mess up
- Visual art. DRAWING = ULTRA HARD MODE =(
- Promoting, especially my own work. I feel like a tool when I try.
- Fitting in (or allowing myself to fit in) with almost any given group. I tend to hide and feel unwelcome most everywhere I go where there are crowds.
- Screaming (vocal style). I can sometimes muster the skill, but only for short bursts.
- Playing anything that isn't super simple on an instrument and singing simultaneously.
- Remembering little things.
- Reading comments on the internet (Youtube, especially)
- Technology, especially mixing, programming and all that hoopajoob. I'm learning, but damn am I slow. :/

Good at:
Procrastination. I'm a goddamn master of that.
I can play the keyboard and violin fairly well.
I'm pretty good at drawing ponies.
I'm patient with a lot of things.

Bad:
Social stuff (lack of practice/interest).
Drawing anything that isn't ponies (they're all I've been bothering to try).
Sticking with any musical project through 'til completion (though I'm getting better).
Sight-reading piano music. Seriously, what the hell is this how do you even.
Being satisfied with my creations (whether justified or not).
Also, this:

I'm starting to realise that the whole "all my stuff sucks" attitude is apparently very common from what I've heard on other forums and deviantArt and such. Which is something I never really thought about before I started working on any personal creative projects...

And yeah, the sight-reading thing is some kind of magic. Especially given that it can take me a stupidly long time (like say, months for something that's about 8 pages) to learn anything decent-sounding.
I have no idea how you concentrate on two different parts, process the information, find all the notes and keep everything in time, though. It just makes my head hurt.

Clearly I need a LOT more practice. :(

Well, I learned to play by ear, mostly. Remember, the books and sheet music don't hold all the answers; play, practice, and write on your own terms, and you might be surprised. :)

I learned by myself too, for the most part, but my technique was basically "find piece I like (that's obviously too advanced) ==> endless repetition until I get it right", which...isn't exactly ideal, I guess.
Writing more stuff myself seems like a really good idea, though. Especially if I feel I need a break from all this crazy sequencer business, so yeah, thanks for that. I'll go try that out more sometime.

Things I think I might be good at:
Wearing a jacket even though it's 32 degrees Celsius here.
Finding stuff (like money, food, etc.) on the floor
Playing the piano and guitar
Science!
Being a comedian
Having the memory of a goldfish
Cramming
EDIT: I forgot one more thing, saying hi to random strangers!

Things I suck in:
Being patient
Language subjects
Temperance
Talking in general
and this:

I suck at reading notes badly. The only thing that helps is taking a section and play it over and over again until I memorize it. How my teacher is able to play music from sheets the first time she sees it, I do not know.

I learned a 4 page piano piece when I was twelve. Forgot it now, but it took me the better part of a week to learn it. I need to learn to play piano again.

If I try to follow a recipe, it will go horribly wrong (such as when I've solidified chocolate before baking it). If I say "screw the recipe, I'll do this however I feel like doing it", the food/drinks turn out awesome.
After the chocolate incident, I've been pretty much banned from baking at work.

Worthless talents: really good at faking body noises, being able to learn lore of fiction first time through but never remembering things I spend hours studying, being able to play pop goes the weasel on the piano in under 3 seconds, those hand-stand flip things (well used to, haven't tried in a while), pretty decent at video games, and more stuff.

Not good at:
- Drawing or any kind of visual media
- Flirting, dating, conversing, understanding women
- Being organized
- Having initiative or motivation
- Being social/fitting in (or at least I feel like I'm bad at this)
- Having a normal/healthy sleep schedule
- Having a normal/healthy eating schedule/habits
- Making technology do what I want when writing and recording music.

Yup.

I'm pretty good at sleeping and procrastination (those two seem to go hand-and-hand), I find it's rather easy to get a laugh out of other people and I can lick my elbow (those two aren't as relevant).

It's incredibly difficult for me to talk to strangers and people I don't know in general, to the point where I'm almost scared of them.
I like to think I'm well-rounded because I'm not really good at anything.

To be honest, I literally have no idea what in the world I'm good at. I seriously misjudge all my skills, and where I think I'm doing great it, I'm actually doing subpar, and really need to kick up my game.

I like to think I'm good at music theory, but then I still need to do work in it.

I'm 100% certain that I'm not very good at sound design at all, but I'm trying to work on it

Whenever I ask my friends to critique a track that I've been working hard on and like how it sounds, I'm always told of a long list of places to improve (not that I don't like that, it just gets annoying after a while, lol. I actually really like it when I get good harsh critique because then I know what I need to work on)

I like to think that I'm good at math, but I just completely botched a geometry test

I'm not very good at much, I guess :P
