My influences are so far away from everyone else's it's not even funny.
The closest thing to electronic (That isn't brony music) I listen to is he electro-swing stylings of Caravan Palace.
Oh lawd I lurves me summa dat Caravan Palace
As far as my other inspirations go, let's see here:
Queens of the Stone Age
For creepy slide guitars, distorted bass, epic drums, and Josh Homme's sexy voice. OH LAWD DAT VOICE.
Red Hot Chili Peppers
You'd be a moron not to at least appreciate what these guys did for Funk Rock. Slick bass lines, and did I mention John Frusciante is probably my biggest inspiration as far as guitar is concerned? I know he's not with the band at the moment, but still.
Primus
Let's face it, as random and creepy as Primus is, the band is a tightly knit geyser of awesome. Killer Slap Bass (Some of the best I've ever heard), amazing drums, and a guitarist with a style so obscure, I don't even know what the hell he's doing half the time, but I love it.
Foo Fighters
As much as I'll probably get shot for this, I actually like Dave Grohl's work in Foo Fighters more than I like Nirvana. I mean Dave's a killer drummer, for sure, but as far as composition goes, the guy obviously knows what he's doing. Standard Alt Rock to the naked eye, but upon closer inspection, there's obviously alot of care and consideration that's gone into every single note of one of their songs. Also one of the most powerful live acts I've had the privelage to go see.
Buckethead
Some call him overrated, I call him a genius. Screw Dragonforce, this glorious man is the greatest guitarist of all time (Barring Hendrix, of course, but who can top that?). Trained by the mighty Paul Gilbert himself, Buckethead is the go-to musician as far as obscure indie metal is concerned. Guns N' roses couldn't handle the awesome.
Serj Tankian
Musical saint. My hero. One glorious armenian. He gets alot of flak for his solo albums being "Just not system," but quite honestly that's just coming from ignorant SOAD purists. Everyone knows System went to hell the second they let Daaron do lead vocals. Serj's solo stuff bridges the gaps set by electronic, orchestral, and heavy rock, and combines them into this glorious indescribable essence of audio sex. Not to mention his lyrics are beyond thought provoking. God I love this man.
Hey Ocean!
More and more I've found myself looking to Hey Ocean! for inspiration. I didn't think much of them, and then I went to see them in concert (Because it was the brony thing to do) and fell in love. Plus they're from Vancouver, which is fitting for me.
I'm missing someone, I know it. As far as Brony musicians go, Bronyfied and Tombstone were the ones that inspired me to get into MLP fan music. Bronyfied because his guitar is sex and his knowledge of good drum patterns baffles me. Tombstone because, well come on. It's TOMBSTONE. What more can I say? Tombstone's music is what convinced me to get over my bias towards electronic music. If converting a purist rocker doesn't make you awesome, I don't know what does.
tl;dr= Alt Rock, Funk Rock, Indie Metal and Tombstone. That's what inspires me.
It ain't Brony Music without a blaring and intrusive airhorn sample.
