Mostly the end result of a track gets me motivated. Cause I myself think that its OK, but I still always wish it was better and that gets me working on another one hoping to improve.

The satisfaction of making a song better than my last keeps me going, I think. I become happier with my sounds as time goes on, because generally I used to be disappointed with the results. I feel like I have full confidence now.

What keeps me going working under voodoopony and all that jazz is the fact that people will hear it and post feedback on Youtube, which I think is a nice thing to have. It has some control over the corners of my lips.

Moving on. A brighter future. The chance to be seen. Recognition. Music makes me happy, art makes me think. Film makes me act. DJ-ing makes me fun. Ponies, well, idk I like em. They're nice, kind, caring, which is what a lot of the world isn't, but ironically liking them is considered "outcast-ic"

Oooh, thats another thing. I played a song I made once to my english class, and I honestly didn't think anyone in the class would like it, because I'm the only one that listens to dubstep in that class. And to my surprise, everyone loved it, and it made me feel great.
Another time, I played that same song to one of my friends, and he really liked it. But I didn't tell him I made it. Instead, I just said "Guess who made that?" He guessed deadmau5, then Skrillex, then Nero, then finally he gave up. When I told him I made it, he was surprised as hell, and I felt amazed that someone actually thought my music was that good.

The moment during a live set in front of 600+ people and dropping my own song, and be cheered for it... I could swim in that feeling...

what keeps me motivated?
The thought that maybe, just maybe my music can actually mean something to someone like cheer someone up when they feel depressed or give someone energy when they feel exhausted.
So basicly I'm naiv and want to make the world better just a little bit with music.

I have that quote Bartekko and Aussie post alot, y'know, that one by Ira Glass?

I have it written on the wall above my computer in sharpie, so it doesn't come off and it's easy to notice.

Umm, lemme find it...

I'm a really gimmick-driven writer. Oftentimes, I'll write something for the sheer challenge of writing something with some arbitrary limitation, or to explore and learn more about new genres. Currently working on some cinematic rock, a prog rock song using literally only major chords, and the 100% Modern Talking song.

That's what keeps me motivated. Just the idea that I'm making the world sillier and just a tiny bit more beautiful. Or uglier, depending on the song.

I like that :) and I feel often the same way too. I think that's why i like Toastbeard so much (if not the short deadlines) is idea of writing with themes and with concepts or different genres in mind. Having tracks that differer from each other and not staying stagnant is pretty important to me. I also don't mind having a little bit of humor in my music as let's face it there's a lot of humor in MLP.

Ultimately I just love the community (what they put out and being a part of that), I like remixing (changing or sometimes "improving" on a great track) and putting my own ideas on it, and I love feeling like it's all worthwhile. I have enough positive feedback to keep going and enough of long ways to still go to to feel that I need to keep improving and pushing myself. Ultimately I think it's important to be involved and make a positive difference.

Yes, that's pretty much mine, too! Besides the fact I love everything that has to do with music, I also write because I know the only way to get better at it is to practice, and I'm impatient, and want to get better as fast as possible, so I write daily. So, the fact that I know that if I keep writing I'll get better keeps me motivated. Also the fact that some people like my music.

Huh. You guys have such high aspirations and ways to get motivated. I just make music because it's a hobby of mine. It's just something I like to do. Sure, it's terrible at this stage, and I know it's terrible, but I still want to keep making music because it's fun.

I want to get better at it, yeah, but I know that will come with time as long as I keep making and listening to music. I'm not necessarily striving to get better, but I know it'll come to me eventually, so I kind of just mess around with music and see what happens.

I want to see where the music takes me.

Sometimes I have a plan and I stick to it, but every time I write something, I learn something new, and at least once, the music steers me in a direction I didn't see it going in.

It's usually in minor ways, but a few days ago, I started writing a twisted orchestral piece inspired by Discord's Reign, and then all of a sudden it just sort of became this funky sexy jazz...thing that I hadn't planned at all.

Now I have to hunt down somepony who sounds like John DaLancie to say a little monologue over it, because I think the music suggests that Discord is planting the seeds of discontent in Luna that would later make her turn into Nightmare Moon, long after he gets defeated. :P

The fact that ANYPONY wants to hear my music keeps me motivated and working on as many quality songs as I can.

This is a big one. I there's even one person that regularly checks out my stuff and comments on it, that's more than enough motivation to keep me going.
