Just got shafted by EQD (EDIT)

Sports, politics, movies, videogames, questionable hobbies, photos from your family vacation, etc. Talk about stuff that isn't ponies or music. But do try to stay on topic and respectful of alternate opinions.

Want to know what bothers me more than what was stated above?

*And no, Applejinx, this is not because of your song.*

Remixception

Let's look at the types of songs that get posted. For the vast majority, you have instrumentals and remixes. The most underposted type of songs seem to be 100% original with lyrics, which are also relatively hard to make, requires singing ability, etc.

Most brony musicians are not going to create epicly memorable instrumentals that will get remixed, and instead, typically instrumentals get some kind of PMV, such as Makkon's Deae Lunae.
*Not saying remixes for instrumentals don't happen. It just doesn't happen very often.*

Compare that to some of the front runners such as Living Tombstone, Mic the Microphone, Glaze, etc, who frequently put out high quality originals with memorable stories/lyrics, and thus, inspire a lot of musicians to remix them.

My beef with the, "remixception," is the sheer amount of it, and to pretend some artists aren't using it to boost popularity would be a lie.
*On a related note, I think I'll snap if I see another Rainbow Factory remix.*

Not saying remixes are bad. It's just becoming far too much when the same songs get remixed by every musician in the community and their mother.

Sort of related to remixception:

Is there some sort of race with new songs? It seems less like inspiration, and more like a race to see who becomes the first musician to get a remix of a new show song posted, and it typically shows in the overall quality.

Now, as for my hypocritical closing remarks:

"This Day Aria" . . . . . . Back the hell away from it!
This song is far too dark for all you happy go-lucky club and electro lovers. Leave the dark and evil sounding remixes to us.

Wow, I come to the forum for the first time in a month and this thread is STILL ALIVE.

I mean really, in the grand scheme of things, how much does this matter? Really?

Look, my most viewed video has 65k views. Do you know how small this number actually is? It's less than .05% of the population of the United States. A very insignificant number by my standards, and according to some, I'm a "famous" brony musician.

Maybe it's just the way I look at things, but when I started making my music, I didn't care to get attention or fame or any of that bullshit. I just tried to gain feedback and was mainly doing it in my spare time for fun. My friends actually had to pressure me to submit my first several songs to EqD. I understand a lot of people do want a whole bunch of attention, but if you think a video with 100k views and a post on some random asshole's pony blog (no offense Seth) is "famous" then you need to get a different perspective.

I dunno, I guess what I'm trying to say is that there's literally no point in bitching about something that you have no control over. Aviators is a good friend of mine and a brilliant musician, so I kind of get riled up when I see shit like this said about him. At the end of the day, it's Seth's blog, he's going to post the shit he wants to with or without the consent of the prelisteners, and there's really nothing that you or I can do about that.

Yeah, I haven't had a single thing featured in 3-4 months, and I've released a good 5 songs since then, 3 of which I absolutely feel deserved to be featured. I don't really know with EqD anymore, so I'm seeking out alternative places to get my music known. I must have been doing something right 3 months ago, because they loved me then.

And yeah, send it in to us. We may feature bigger artists, but we also ABSOLUTELY spotlight smaller musicians as well, and (at least I will) guarantee a response to an email or private message, so you're not left in the dark.

Anyone reading this, EqD is NOT your only site of choice. Ours may not give you thousands of views overnight, but we get a decent amount of hits each day, and you will gain more exposure than you would have normally attained otherwise.

Circuitfry, Makkon, could one of you please close this thread. I've already gone over this and I'm not going to do it again.

Sure.

Also, to everyone, please avoid bringing this topic up again. Just write music, you shouldn't care about popularity. MLR is about making great music, not about getting attention.
