What's your opinion on remixes?

Sports, politics, movies, videogames, questionable hobbies, photos from your family vacation, etc. Talk about stuff that isn't ponies or music. But do try to stay on topic and respectful of alternate opinions.

Some remixes can be pretty good though, adding a whole new spin on an already good track etc. Some can be utter shit. Really depends on the producer and the person listening to it. And honestly, I'd LOVE to remix something, but that's not something within my skillset. Inspiration just doesn't come to me when it comes to remixing. So I'd rather see if left to someone who can actually do a remix.

This. What's the gain of being the first to remix a new song? I'd rather wait a week for a great track than a rushed cover that comes out the day the episode does.

When I see remixes, I like it when the song's genre and overall feel is drastically changed, but it still remains easily recognizable as the original. I hate remixes that essentially stay in the same genre, or are just flat out cheap. A remix should be more original work than it is remix in my opinion.

AbranteDr's remix of SoGreatandPowerful's On My Own is a good example of a remix that totally changed the song, made it into his own, but still paid homage to the original in a meaningful and interesting way.

Of course, I'm a sucker for anything related to SGaP.

The 'remixes' I've done so far have taken the original song into an entirely different style.

One time I turned a song into a fast paced 16th-instrumental-solo-containing piece,
One time I took a song that uses 16ths and made it something that uses 12ths and had crazy drums,
One time I added OCRemix style slow fancy ambient drums.

I think that if you remix not just for the sake of remixing but to bring the song someplace it never thought it would be, kick it out of the bus and tell it to find its way back home, then you have the right idea~
