I use Adobe Flash Professional CS6. Best program I've used for animation.

From my editing experience:

For editing:
Color correction! (make everything look amazing :P )
Clip changes on the beat of the song (it adds to the effect of the video and the song itself. it may take ages but its worth it in the end)
Twixtor (not sure if it works for Sony Vegas, but its almost like cheating when it comes down to editing to music)
Dont use movie maker :P (never)

For animation:
Noooooooo idea......
Remember folks! Its not rape if you yell surprise!

I used to use XP's version of Windows Movie Maker which was decent but limited. Windows 7 version while good for text and rending in HD is embarassingly limited for transitions and minute editing unlike its predecessor. Once I started playing with Vegas Pro 11 it's been clear sailing as it's so much more powerful than anything I've used before allows multi-channel sources, transitions, video effects, etc. Had some wonderful results with that.
