Great. I can't decide on a set of headphones. At first I was about to get the Sennheiser HD 518, until I hear about the ATH-M50s in this thread. I just did some more research and now I want to get those SRH840s.

Curse you!

I want your microphone.

Also, all I'm using is a shitty pair of Apple earbuds, but if you wear them a certain way and turn the bass all the way up, it's surprisingly effective to a degree.

I have ATH M50's as well! They're by far the best headphone for price. And ATH CKS55i for on the go.

No, I think he means putting them in sideways, so the three little holes on the top of the bud are in your ear canal. It looks dorky as hell, but it works better than putting them in normal.

I have HD280s. They are, for the money, damn good headphones. I got mine around $75, but that was because it was on sale. I think they usually go for around $100. They have a pretty good sound quality for studio headphones, and they're by far the most comfortable headphones I have ever worn. Plus, they're very durable, I've thrown em around alot.

I also have a pair of Pioneer HDJ500s, that I started out with. They're DJ headphones though (I did not know the difference at the time), so I just use them for listening on the Ipod since they do look better than the blocky HD280.

Besides that, I just have an old stereo system that I use to help out in mastering. I don't invest in monitors because I move around too much to make use of them.

I make different kinds of music, often get told that It sounds like something for a Video Game because I make only instrumentals, never had a chance to make music for an actual game. I would love to.

Kind of. I put the bottoms of them in my ears. (the part the wires come out of)

I need help deciding between the Shure SRH840s and the Audio-Technica ATH-M50s. My budget is right around $150. Alternatives are welcome, and open headphones are allowed as suggestions.

I'd say go with the Audio-Technica ATH-M50. I hear the Shure's are really uncomfortable, and the M50's have killer sound that I'm not sure the SRH840's can match.

If you're on a tight budget (under 100) then I highly HIGHLY recommend checking out JVC HA-RX 900's. Their sound quality rivals that of around $300 headphones, and they're ultra super comfortable. Seriously, these headphones I would recommend to anyone and everyone. I think I got mine for around $50, but they were on sale if I remember correctly.
