Modern classical/Avant garde

Anyone here like this stuff? I usually avoid it, but when the right mood strikes, I can't stop listening to the likes of Schoenberg, Shostakovich, and John Cage.

Better question: anyone here compose this stuff?

*throws a sideways glance at Dr. Dissonance*

Charles Ives and Krzysztof Penderecki are two of my favorite composers of all time. I used to be really big into writing stuff like that, too, and then I discovered the world of electronic music and got very much distracted. >.>

I think I tend to like 20th century classical more than the other main periods (Classical through Romantic). Stravinsky is a god, of course, Steve Reich is amazing, and I like Luciano Berio and Edgar Varese a lot too. (Though I have to be in the right mood for that last one.) Bartók's another great one.

I used to compose stuff a little like that in college, though I usually stayed more on the consonant side of things rather than the strictly atonal and 12-tone side. When I compose for acoustic instruments--which pretty much means for solo piano, these days, due to a lack of performers and concert opportunities, and a consequent lack of drive to explore other ensembles--I do tend to write music that's closer to that style than to the more mainstream-oriented electronic music I usually make.

Versilaryan? You're Vafrous Coyote? ElectroKaplosion and I were talking about how we liked One Last Chance! Awesome.

(sorry for going off topic XD)

Anyways. Nope, I can't say I like MC/AG. I've never been a fan of classical, with very few exceptions.
