Possibly dropping from BP? Help?

Postby Sinn Ick » 19 Mar 2012 22:33

Hey guys, had quiet the problem here, working towards getting a track out for Balloon Party. But, i might have to drop out, due to i don't have 199$ to drop on FL studio, i could part with the 100$ fruity edition, but i NEED the automation clips, and i really dont want to pay another 100$ JUST for that, it's the only different thing from the fruity edition that i need! Even though 100 extra is worth it, i have a VERY hard time judging if it would be a waste due to me not being able to even make a single song from the "no saving and reopening" demo edition.
My friend said he did not have this for his demo version, is there a way to disable it? And is there another way to add automation clips into just the fruity edition without paying the extra 100$
Thanks guys.
(If this is in the wrong spot, sorry, im new here :s)

If you have no qualms about piracy you could just torrent a cracked version of it and keep your 100+ bucks.

If you just need to find a cheap DAW, I recommend getting Reaper. Very cheap ($60 actually) and has automation. Comes with some synths, though I never tried them. And if you already have your VST's, it can support them. But if you need FL because of the plugins it comes with, can't really think of anything that would be -legal-...

It would be a shame for you to drop out of Balloon Party because of those reasons though.

yeah i REALLY want to be a part of this, kinda my mini-dream for music. I'm not into pirating, i support the producers 100% so thats out of the question.

Start using trackers then. Renoise or whatever :3

Edit: Renoise costs money. OpenMPT doesn't though.

Well guys, got word back from image-line. i CAN'T part out JUST the automation clips, so ill need to drop an extra 100$, however i asked them if i could get a temp. code to disable the re-opening restriction so i can see if i can make a decent song, so im not wasting 200$
If anyone has any other softwear like FL studio, let me know. PLEASE make sure to define what you are talking about, still trying to understand what VST, MIDI and all that stuff means....

http://lmms.sourceforge.net/

Try out LMMS. It has a layout that's similar to FL studios', comes with synths and all the bunch, and I think it has VST support. I'm not sure if it has automation or not, you may need to do some digging on that. Here is a tutorial of it (from a fellow brony called circutfry): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJm9onyg ... goDr5JZvc=

Oh, and LMMS is free. It may be a bit buggy, but it's still a great piece of FREE software once you get the hang of it. c:

Reaper has awfully lot of great effects but doesn't really have instruments. 3 to be exact, but you can get a ton of free ones for example:

And by getting demo version of Reason and using it as a ReWire slave. Same works for demo of Loopy Fruits studio. :)

rekindled my thoughts of being able to do this since finishing a small portion (needs a LOT of tweaking)

DAW stands for Digital Audio Workstation. It's the software you use to make music in. FL Studio, Reaper, LMMS, etc.

MIDI stands for Musical Instrument Digital Interface. Basically, there are two ways to record audio: as audio files, or as MIDI files. If you record an instrument in your DAW, you get an audio file that has the sound of the instrument. If you record a MIDI controller (which is typically modeled after an instrument), you get a MIDI file instead. MIDI files contain information about what note you play, note velocity, pitch, etc. MIDI itself does not play audio; instead, it is linked with a virtual instrument you choose in your DAW to produce a sound.

VST stands for Virtual Studio Technology. I don't know too much about VST's, so anyone else reading this, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. I believe VST's are used as the digital instruments that coincide with MIDI to create an audio output, though that may be VSTi's (VST instruments) specifically. I also believe they can be used as effect plugins to alter you sounds (pretty sure this is all VST's except VSTi's).
