Interesting things to experiment with

I was listening to some Circlesquare the other day and I noticed that they like to put a long reverb on a synth, and then add a noise gate onto the reverb so it drops in and out. I would never have thought of doing this of my own volition, so I thought, why not ask about some other interesting, unconventional ways of using effects?

I love this stuff. Sometime's I like to split a reverb track into 16 or so bands, and pan every other band left, and every other band right.
