Let's Delve into Progressive Rock!

How much Prog do I need?

MOAR.

Let's start with this beauty. Close to the Edge was my first exposure to prog rock, and it still sticks out in my mind as quite possibly the greatest album ever. Listen to it. Seriously, this is a great starting place for the genre if you're unfamiliar with it, or as a starting place for Yes, or just as an album to listen to if you happen to like music.

Siberian Khatru... Well, just listen to those chords, those melodies, those rhythms. This song is quite unlike any other ever written, very distinctive, in my opinion. It's just beautiful. This may not be archetypal prog rock (because prog rock is an EXTREMELY varied genre to begin with) but this is just a delicious song that everyone should listen to and try to appreciate.

Kicking off this thread with some Yes. But there's a lot of prog out there I know I haven't even heard of, and there are some bands out there I'm interested in that some of you can help introduce me to! Specifically these are Tool, Karnivool, and Dream Theater.

Yep, let's do a prog thread!

And of course, Myth, my favorite off of Close to the Edge is the title track itself!

(my second favorite is "And You and I", and "Siberian Khatru" is very cool, but not incredibly gripping for me; best part is the sitar/harpsichord bit! And Howlgram, the lyrics are meant to be there for "color"; they don't have meaning outside of the sounds of the words and the feel of the images -- on that song, at least. The other two tracks on the album seem very resonant to me, with more of a "message" to convey...)

YAY!
I'll just leave these here...

Tales from topographic oceans is my favorite from Yes. But the lyrics are just f***'d up.
I heard they are based on some book from hindu mythologies but after reading it the lyrics still didn't make any sense :D

I don't listen to rock a lot but I found this to be progressive and rock sounding, so here it be!

Don't fall for the fact that they're under the Warp label... all I've heard from them is mathrock haha.

It disturbs me that there is a lack of mentioning of the kings of progressive rock! Kansas!
