Better Super/Hypersaws?

Postby Friv » 17 Feb 2013 16:33

I've been working on my sound design lately, and one thing I just can't figure out how to make the air-y trance supersaws like Xilent or Seven Lions. I know they use stereo width on the high end and whitenoise, but I can't seem to get the actual sound I'm looking for. (and yes, I know how to make a regular supersaw...)
Examples:

1m in

1m50s in
Well I'm pretty much done with this site (it wasn't about the April Fool's joke I actually loved that). If for some reason somebody wants to contact me or something (not like any of you even care lol):

Chorus, some detune, maybe try cutting the mids to get it more 'airy'. White noise works well as an airiness-enhancer.

You might want to highpass it. Also try boosting around 5kHz and taking down the low-mids or just the mids if you want some power behind it.

Never hurts to try in a different synth.

JP6K is really good for supersaws (It simulates Roland JP 8000)

It always helps to duplicate the synth and mess with the panning to get a wider sound.

Make sure both instances are detuned a bit

Remember that reverb doesn't just kick in at the end of the sound. It adds space while it's playing too.

EQ the shit out of low-mids (300-500hz area). Really muddy area for saws. Boost the high-mids. (3k~ish).

Chorus, light distortion, reverb, compression.
