What is this vocal effect?

Postby topitmunkeydog » 04 Feb 2013 20:56

So in many songs I hear there is this really weird and eerie effect, and you can't tell if the person is singing high or not. Usually the music that accompanies it is pretty raucous and that is why it's so hard to tell. I infer that they recorded two tracks or more, in both regular voice and falsetto, but is there anything else to it? and while we are at it, how does one indeed go about recording multiple vocal tracks?

They're called harmonies, and you record multiple takes of vocals by recording multiple takes. I'm... not sure what else to put. They can sing high because they have a high vocal range...

Sounds like in "it gets better", the vocals have been auto-tuned, doubled to a bus and distorted. Makes it sound like there's a guitar or synth doubling the vocals.

The Adventure Time music intro in sung in unison, but there is a huge difference in the timbre of the voices singing.

I'd say there's actually a second bus in "it gets better" that has distortion on it.

But yeah, the way they're doing it is with multiple singers/vocal tracks.
