Help My Song Sounds Like Rainbow Factory

Postby JSynth » 09 Jan 2013 21:01

So I am in the final phases of producing my song. With the progress I am making, I am looking at publishing my song this weekend/early next week. I just have one problem.

My song sounds a lot like Rainbow Factory.

I mean, they share the same key, their bass lines sound a lot alike and the way the lyrics are formatted are almost exact.

So, what I am wondering is: Is there anything thing that I can do to pull away from the rainbow factory without breaking down the song and starting from scratch again?

UPDATE:

Here is what I have so far:

Glockenspiel, I like your thinking.

Glockenspiel is german though, I thought you were french, topitmunkeydog.

Anyways, it would be helpful if you could post your current progress on your song.

Hehe, I'm actually from Texas but I lived in France for a while so that's why you might think I'm French itroitnyah. Misleading people is fun! :D
EDIT: I also just remembered that my avatar is the picture of my cat with the beret, lol
But yeah, I would definitely recommend somehow letting us listen to what you've got. It could be just one of those things that nobody else notices until one points it out.

Many songs end up sharing a similar rhythm and key, so you're bound to have many moments where you go, "That sounds like something I've heard before." As an example, listen to the strings that come in at 4:38 here:

After I published the song, I had a, "Oh crap, that sounds kind of like Halo," moment. In reality, it's maybe 3-4 notes that share a similar interval and rhythm, but it establishes that connection with something in memory.

Overall, I wouldn't sweat it, but if you're fairly certain the relationship is more than just a few notes, feel free to post a WiP and let us be the judge.

Honestly it doesn't matter too much, in one of my first songs, and one I'm still proud of to this day I blatantly ripped off zelda's Lullaby. I didn't realize until after I posted it, but I didn't care too much. It was a part of the song, and I didn't mean to do it while I was composing.
See 1:28 for Zelda's Lullaby
