TB 303 And Acid House

Postby ghelded_kultz » 06 Dec 2012 10:20

So I received sudden inspiration to make an acid house remix of Rainbow Factory (The urge will probably be gone soon anyway but this could also be for future reference). However I don't know anything about making acid house and I don't even have a TB 303 emulator. So what is the best free TB-303 emulator and does anyone have tips for making acid house?

Note: I don't care how badly I fail at this, but I do want to try if nothing more than for the hell of it.

Youtube is your friend. There are several vst emulators (likely free ones) that could do the trick. I'd search for you but my boss is in the office today so you'll have to check yourself. You can also likely emulate one using existing FL Studio vst's if you have that as your daw.

I second ReBirth - on top of the fact that it's a beautiful emulation of the Roland instruments, it's free now.

It's a hassle getting it to work on Win7 though, and if you're running Win8 I doubt you'll ever get it to work.

If you insist on going free, ReBirth is one of the better ones out there. However, I would highly recommend investing in AudioRealism's Bassline, simply because of how well it emulates the 303's unique square wave.

As for how to make Acid House, it's one of the more straightforward genres, really. Set up a percussion section, preferably with 808 samples, slap on a 303 line, punch the record automation button and spin those knobs like a monster. Effects every 32 bars to keep things interesting. If you're feeling adventurous, you can play two 303 patterns at the same time.

Can anyone link me to a DL of Rebirth? I can't find a decent one.

TAL Bassline though its an SH-101 emu. It should be similar to 303 as well. Also 909 on drums

While I am currently doubting this project will ever get anywhere, thanks for the advice everyone. I was looking at Rebirth already and so will probably be getting that. Thanks again.
