Sweet Layering Effect In FL With Hardcore

Postby XXDarkShadow79XX » 11 Sep 2012 12:33

I've just recently found that if you want a cool effect for your dubstep basses/hardcore kickdrums/whatever, you can layer the base sound with a copy of it that's been put through FL's Hardcore.

Here: Take this basic wobble I made using Seismik: (It's the preset "Brain Freeze")

https://dl.dropbox.com/s/bfk7f9i56djbuz ... 0Sound.wav

I routed it to an empty mixer track. Then, I ran it through a CamelCrusher on the "More Beef" preset:

After that, I cloned the instance of Seismik and assigned the new instrument to another free instrument track. I added CamelCrusher with the same preset "More Beef", and then I added Hardcore. After trying out a lot of presets, I found that the "Hard Blues" preset sounded good. I removed the delay, turned down the volume, and got this:

Finally, I layered both instruments together and turned up the base sound a bit.

As you can hear, it sounds very fuzzy and beefy. It also works with hardcore kickdrums, like I said.

Before:

After:

https://dl.dropbox.com/s/367qm0hrccfv51 ... 0sound.wav

While it is more subtle, in this example the kick is made a bit noisier.

I don't think this has been used before, or at least, to this effect. Just play around with the presets and effects in hardcore and the volume level of the layers to get tons of different effects.

Thanks for reading! Hope you found it useful!

Okay, good that you shared your findings but distortion is quite common... I usually like to slap one on a break. Or if there's a sampler instrument and it's missing high frequencies, it's nice to bus it to another channel, highpass it and give it a teenytiny dash of distortion. That way the missing high buzz gets back and it won't sound that lo-fi. That really depends what have you sampled and how are you using it though.

And that's not really how to go about actual hardcore kick (like gabber or something) but I'm not sure if you even intend to :D

Oh yes, distortion is quite common. I was just sharing an interesting way of doing it. The examples I used are just ones I knocked up in a few minutes. If you put some time into it and use the right base sounds, then you can get some sweet sounding stuff. I made a crazy hardcore kick using this, and a heavy dubstep wobble too, and I plan on using this a lot more.

Also, thanks for the tips. :)
