@AgonistAgent, Linux is a toughy if you're dependent on proprietary software. I used it for about a month and I absolutely loved it; it ran really smoothly, looked amazing, had splendid GUI and UI, and the most friendly user experience I've ever had.
Unfortunately before that I was highly dependant on programs like Flash, Photoshop, and FL which I couldn't get to work properly in Wine, and programs like LMMS, Flash for Linux, and the GIMP fell short for me in terms of usability and features.
However, that's just me, the guy who's been using this stuff his whole life

. I do use some open-source programs such as Apophysis and Blender and love them so I know many of these programs are fully capable of doing the same things as the propitiatory alternatives.
Anyways, in terms of vocal chopping with native Linux software, I couldn't tell you for certain, but I personally switched over from Adobe Audition after years of use to Audacity as my dedicated audio editor because I found Audacity had much better support for audio codecs and was more stable and less buggy. So it's fully capable of vocal chopping and such. I'm not sure how the audio playlist works in LMMS, but if it's anything like it is in FL then you should be able to chop up your vocals at your heart's content with it.
