^^^ This, so much this. Everything he just said is exactly what I've been learning in audio engineering school, and I can attest to the accuracy of this information.
Also, some people like to have the two tweeters and your head make an equilateral triangle, rather than being 30 degrees. And having them be at ear level and pointed at your head is very important, because high frequencies are very directional. Bass can fill a whole room no matter what you do with the speakers, but you need the tweeters pointing at you to hear them well.
Another thing... don't just hang a bunch of blankets on the wall and call that sound treatment. That's a huge thing and there's so much more to it than just blankets and foam. Blankets and foam will only absorb high frequencies, and if you do that, you'll be left with mud.
As for the amp and the keyboard... I don't record from my amp, but if I did, I'd try to put it in the closest thing to a sound isolation booth that I can manage, and mic it, and put the mic into the monitors. I like to have my keyboard just slightly to the side so that I can turn my head to look at my computer without much trouble, but if it's small enough, you should try to manage a way to have it on your desk or something.
Try experimenting with stuff. Don't spend so much time planning or thinking that you never come up with something good.
