Suggestions for Pads and Ambience

Postby Festerio » 21 Aug 2012 20:24

I am looking for suggestions on which vsts and other types of virtual instruments are available for large, wide synths, pads, and ambient sounds for songs. I am confused as to which one is the best... I have been looking all over.

Click link for my EQBeats artist page. Critique my work please! :D

I use absynth for all my pads. It has a ton of great presets that are super easy to navigate. Its also a really versatile synth, although it will take time to learn as its fairly complicated.

EDIT: This site is a good starting point for learning how to use it if you decide to get it.

Nexus has amazing stuff for pads if you don't mind presets.

Nexus is pretty nice, but I use Zebra2 for most of my pads, with Massive taking up the rest.

I heard Adjoo's Helix is great for pads, but it has a pretty complex interface and has a bit of a learning curve.

If you use FL Studio, there's always 3xOsc. :D

Here's a tutorial for that.

Massive, Sytrus, and FabFilter Twin 2 are all great synths. Most people think Massive is only for wubs or dubstep, but those people are wrong wrong wrong; Massive can make very sweet and ambient sounds too.

It would also help everyone else in this thread if you were more specific about what you are looking for and what DAW you use.

If you have Logic Pro, the built-in synths will do you just fine for what you're looking for. Lots of lovely sounds in there.

Sytrus and Zebra 2 works really nice for this stuff.

If your me, I would look for FM synthesizers, like NI FM8!

Padshop from Steinberg.

It's a granular synth in which you can build pads, leads, and other synth sounds based off sound samples.

Padshop Pro gives you the option to import your own samples to use.
