Sound creating and stuff with Massive (wubbiness)

Postby itroitnyah » 14 Jul 2012 20:08

alright, so if you follow Alex S on soundcloud, you've probably already heard this: http://soundcloud.com/alex-s-music/alex-s-trixie-the-pony-troll

And if you remember some of my older posts, you'll know that I asked about how to get certain sounds out of synths other than massive, because I didn't own it at the time. The sounds I am referring to are the little bouncy thingies that occur at 0:46-0:50. Well, not I have Massive, so I can make those sounds.

I don't want or need a preset for the exact sound, I just want to know the wave form(s) that are used in the making of this. I went and tried using the performed and various wave forms that come with that, (sine sudden drop sine sudden drop) and others (saw up saw up saw up), but none seem to work.

well making a wub i believe is just a low pass filter and an lfo.

i'm not exactly sure what wub sound you're referring to, but you could probably try youtubing it.

I believe you can make a similar sound to the bass lead in this song with square waves - I have a vaguely similar sound in Massive that uses the waveform 'smooth-square.'
Youtube -- Soundcloud -- Tumblr -- Bandcamp (new album out!)

I can't feel my brain.

If you're talking about that airy, lead sound, it sounds like there's a lot of white noise in it. Mess with the white noise generator along with the sine shaper or parabolic shaper and maybe chorus and/or distortion. You might be able to get a similar sound using slightly detuned supersaws, but I haven't messed around with different waveforms in Massive to know for sure.

For the bounciness, just add an envelope to the pitch and adjust the attack so that the pitch bounces up like that. Then, set one of those macro controls to the envelope's parameters so you can get rid of that bounce if you want to.
