God damn it...

Postby soup2504 » 26 Jun 2012 16:29

So yeah... Now I'm having trouble...

It just seems that the important parts of my creativity just... Stopped working. Now I can really only come up with melodies that would fit well in the MIDDLE of a song, but I just... Can't get an intro for anything... On top of that, I'm having a lot of trouble coming up with my own synths for some reason, but, well, that part at least makes sense, because I never truly knew what all these pretty knobs meant, and I would either just toy around until I found a sound I like, or tweaked something from a tutorial.

So yeah... Any ideas? I'm just... All of the sudden... Dumb! And this is like, kind of a big problem, because I was asked to do a song to use in the introductions of a certain YouTube channel, and I'm just... Dumb all of the sudden D:

Make a short break from making music, and get influenced by the pieces of others: Best music and genres you haven't listened before.

Try to recreate some of it: Analyze the harmony, the sound or anything else you want: learn from what they did, change it the way you want, and use it for yourself.

What i do normally is take an existing score and mess around with it, changing notes, keys and order. It works to an extent, at least for practice.

Writers block. Sometimes it doesnt come in full force and we don't realise, and end up stuck for longer. If this is a time sensitive thing, ask some friends to work on it. Don't mention it as a collaboration, I'm starting to see the idea of collaborations being a creative block when approached that way, just say"Hey I need an intro, any ideas?" then let them listen. If they do, send MIDIs, mp3s and tell them to go nuts.

I see we're on a similiar situation. That's why I'm going to focus more on other stuff than music for a while. I think that when you try to force yourself being creative you'll end up even less creativity. Stop stressing over music and relax, I'm sure soon you'll have plenty of ideas again.

Eh, taking a break from music entirely would kill me. I still have a few finished songs that need mixed and mastered... And one of those songs has been done for almost 2 months... I'll just focus on those before I even try anything else.

Collab-ing always refreshes my creativity. And I always learn something that helps make with composing. Try doing a collab with someone. I'm open if you'd like.
Well I'm pretty much done with this site (it wasn't about the April Fool's joke I actually loved that). If for some reason somebody wants to contact me or something (not like any of you even care lol):

I'm already doing a collab, and I have no clue what to do next :S

But then again, I haven't touched the file lately because I don't think I can do anything... I bet if I just opened it up, I could figure something out, but I don't know >_<

Writer block affects us all, Itll pass, in the meantime
Listen to new/different genres
Organise your samples/synths (What im doing currently)
Read some manuals
mess with youe synths
Sometimes you just have to accept youre gonna have days where shit just dont work out for you
Ive been in one of those for 3 months  due to time constraints and such though
Not had much time to produce

Listen to more music. Like, all the time. Everything can give you ideas.

Make something with lyrics made by Google Translate... or a worse translator (yes, there are worse than Babelfish), I dunno what music you write.

Well, from time to time, this is going to happen, everyone has a block, It only means your overworking it into a point where you used up all your ideas, try taking a break, draw a picture, take a walk, Jump on your bed, IDK, do anything besides music, try other things you love and you might find your inspiration.

Surprisingly enough, this happens to me EVERY SINGLE TIME I finish a track. I usually spend a week away from making music, and as stated before, gather inspiration and ideas. Then I come back and cook up something brilliant :D

Kyoga said it best.

I'm at the point where I kind of welcome writer's block as a way of saying "slow the hell down already!" and just focus on refining what I have and/or trotting it out for performances. I know it's frustrating, though, so I hope you're able to get your melodic swagger back!

I'm really good at intros, but have a hard time getting anything down for the middle part(s) of a song.

Wanna collab sometime?

I don't read post dates, okay? I'm used to forums where the first 30 pages of the "newest posts" is from the last day or so.

Get used to reading post dates, it's really annoying to see hundreds of dead threads pop up. Try being like Kyoga, post in spam thread if you want that number up.

I don't give a crap about my post number, I just want to help people, regardless of whether or not they need it. :P

But if they don't need it, is it really considered "helping" them ;)?
