Need help to discover electronic music...

Postby Sugarholik » 11 Aug 2011 13:51

Hi there!
I'm still quite new to electronic music and i don't know too many artists or genres or anything...
So far i've been listeneng to Renard (who got me hooked to this stuff in the first place), Aphex Twin, East Clubbers and been browsing through the UKF dnb/ dubstep on youtube. And of course all you pony-musicians out there. :D
But that's quite short list.
So i'd appreciate alot if somepony could toss here links or mention some artists etc.
Thanks!

Music blogs are a good way to discover new stuff, so I'd try that. Here are ones I like. You can look around The Hype Machine too for more blogs.

And if you don't mind the thousands upon thousands of trolls, you can look around for sharethreads on 4chan's /mu/.

Not necessarily artists you should know, just some artists I find pretty inspiring.
Overall electronic music, just like acoustic and mixed music, has so much variety it's impossible to pinpoint any specific artists that you should know exactly. Just get inspiration and roll with it, see where it takes you - no need to get tied down with genres.

Sorry, i guess i used the wrong words... The stuff you posted was just what i was looking for.
Also, thanks for the advice but i think i'm not going to get stuck with genres. Just thought it was a good idea to broaden my horizons and learn from stuff others have done: It's easier to experiment when you've got more stuff to experiment with...

Ambient House, weeee! :D

I'm probably going to get some crap for saying it, but deadmau5 is excellent, maybe not musically but he mixes every one of his tunes so well, and always has great and creative synths. Even if you don't care for the music, I suggest you check him out to get some inspiration for sounds and synths.
