Moombahton wobbles?

Postby DJSheogowrath » 26 Mar 2012 21:40

Ok, so I'm trying some Moombahton, and I'm trying to get those high pitched wobbles, like on ArtAttack's Break It. Can anyone give me some help with this?

I'll toss it in here for reference/anyone who doesn't know what I'm talking about (they start at 0:38)

Moombahcore is the word you're looking for, Moombathon doesn't really use the wobbles.

Also, Nope, no idea, I'm pretty sure tinkering on Massive for a while would help, but I dunno. I'm not helpful, shush.

I stumbled over Omni's livestream by mistake and it seems like he did something similar to this.
Here! (Round the 30min mark-ish)
What he uses is a Massive patch with all three oscillators running saw wave forms and an envelope to alter the pitch of all three (I think, I'm no massive expert).
I've noticed that routing the filter envelope to one or more of your oscillators on most synths and playing around with the decay will yield a kind of "laser-gun" sound. Not sure if that's what's going on here, it's probably more complex than that, but hey it's a start.

I would say you can add a bit of filth by putting another oscillator in and putting the pitch at 19 but I haven't tried it to confirm
DAW: FL studio 10
Plugins: Komplete 8 and various freeware plugins
Instruments: Ibanez Xiphos, M-Audio Oxygen 8 midi controller
Genre: Whatever feels good at the time

I believe they're known as "Siren Synths", This is a pretty good tutorial I've found for making some basic ones. (I'd assume the same techniques would apply over to any other synthesizer as well, I haven't had much experience outside of reason's synths)

The main points of the sound are routing the mod env to the pitch of each oscillator, and automating the decay on the mod env to give it that laz0r-y sound.

Hope that helps a bit.
