Any suggestions to what I should listen to?

Postby Spark » 19 Mar 2012 07:05

I'm pretty new with heavy music and techno. I tried to find some songs in those genre but I can't seem to find good ones to get a feel of the styles. Any suggestions?

Just hearing heavy and techno together makes me think of Excision, Downlink, Kill the Noise, Noisia, and maybe deadmau5's last album. I think those should give you a feel for heavy electronic stuff in all of its delicious flavors.
Youtube -- Soundcloud -- Tumblr -- Bandcamp (new album out!)

I can't feel my brain.

Heavy electronic music? Well, Dubstep is pretty much the Death Metal of Electronica, so you should take a listen to dubstep tracks such as Sick Tonight (by Doctor P), Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites (by Skrillex), The Devil's Den (also by Skrillex).
Some tracks that are a little more Electro-House would be Internet Friends (by Knife Party), The instrumental version of Hey Baby (by Deadmau5), and The Island (by Pendulum).
For Techno I'm not too sure, by if you like non-straightened drum patterns (breaks), take a listen to Hybrid. Some of their best tracks are "Just For Today", their remix of Eelke Kleijn's "Lone Ranger", and "Snyper".
These are the tracks I recommend if you want to familiarise yourself with today's electronic dance music. :D

Well all the artists I would have metioned have been written here already so I will add this little tip I learned.

If you work on your track and then listen to music of the same genre your music likely won't be very special as it will sound just like the music you were listening too. Now when I create electronic music whenever I'm not working on stuff I listen to lots or orchestra and metal, I also don't even think about practicing my djing.

Erm, have this. 20 minutes of Jungle DnB. Most of it is pretty heavy stuff.
