Baby's First Music Maker?

Postby CoffeeGrunt » 26 Feb 2012 10:01

Howdy ho, everybody/pony.

I feel like branching out and trying new things, mainly as fic writing's slowed to a halt for me. I'm considering grabbing a basic, cheap, 'n' easy composition program. It'd be purely for the purposes of learning basic rhythm and the like, and procrastinating away from writing, as that's my other new hobby.

Just wanted advice on which program to go with. I'm aware of stuff like FruityLoops, Sibelius and the like, but have no idea whatsoever which program would be best for an absolute beginner.

Thanks for any help!

FL studio is where I started, and much like any program, it will be a little challenging to pick up(took me about 2 months with no break) but once you get the basics, it is VERY beginner friendly. I would recommend trying out FL, but try not to give up, because once you know what you're doing, even slightly, it can be god damn fun. Let's just say my steam rating was ALWAYS a 10, unless I went on vacatoin. Ever since I started using FL seriously, it has dropped down to a 4(6.9 now because Cry of Fear)

In other words. FL Studio get.

FLStudio might prove to not be easy.

If you're more than casual about music, you should also check out Ableton Live, and if not, MAGIX Music Maker will do, because it's very easy to work with AND supports VST's.

This guy has some really good tutorials that are easy to follow and simple to learn. Look through them, definitely worth the time. I'm using the thing in the video I linked in the song I am currently working on.
