Aside from Orchestral, I have no idea how to label any of the songs I make, I guess some are DnB but it's all undefined, I don't like this but eh, what can you do. Don't let it worry you too much (:

Some of my biggest influences are people like Frank Zappa who can make a style out of not having a style. I don't entirely understand how some musicians can limit themselves to a single genre for long periods of time. I'd just get bored trying to go an entire career without changing things up sometimes.

Not really an official style - therefore I don't care.

lol that's just cuz they need something for the bit- er......the ladies to listen to, cuz they drive album sales.

name any mainstream "gangster" rapper on a major label and I guarantee that somewhere on that tracklisting full of songs about FLIPPIN KILOS and BUSSIN GATS is a song w/ a R&B singer where it's all "I love, you, girrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrl! <3"

Not if you enjoy making music that helps a guy get laid. :D

but yea it does greatly annoy me how:

A) its like a cheat code for radio play, to the point where once-edgy rappers just surrender to the temptation to do it exclusively (LL Cool J....Twista....Ja Rule is the all-time cautionary tale in this regard....Fabolous has escaped this creative prison thank God....Drake is doomed to fall into this trap) until there is just...nothing left.

B) probably 80%+ of these songs are made according to the cynical formula of "R&B beat + obnoxious R&B crooner (or ugh, they do themselves....LOOKIN AT YOU JA RULE) + generic half-assed rhymes about the ladies that are still pretty fucking misogynistic if you pay attention".

C) young ladies who actually prefer more substantive rap music and see through this bullshit are rarer than natural pearls. Like, me and the artists I'd work with took to calling these songs DOG FOOD - just plop anything down in the doggy bowl and they gobble it up irrespective of taste. (ouch lol) If I ever hit it off w/ a girl who loves Native Tongues or something, we are getting married ASAP.

umm i may not be a musician, but why do what you don’t like. stick to a style no matter what and what you do will be a form of your own style. so a "style" per say is what you like to do and are inspired to do if that’s deadmau5 then do it.

its in the eye of the artist, not so much the beholder.

Don't let yourself get set into the mindset of "I'm an x genre artist" Just mess about with what takes your fancy
I regularly swing from making rootsy style dub to more tear out dub, to future garage and progressive house, and im currently experimenting with some more DnB styles after messing with the amen break
If you come up with an idea for a song, doesn't matter what style, just follow it through and see what happens

Some bands do it for the money, but some actually make good quality soft songs.

Software: I'm original, so i use Sunvox. I used to use LMMS, but the crashing drove me insane.
