[HELP] FL Studio 10 Crash

Postby DJ TATCM » 14 Sep 2012 15:15

Hello, I'm trying to record something on my laptop, and every single time I try to click on the ASIO driver in the audio settings, I get a lovely BSOD, saying some archaic error with some stdriver64.sys. I have no idea what it means, and I really want to record my sexylicious falsetto, so can someone help me please? :?:

I don't know much about FL 10 but there is one question that unfortunately needs to be asked..

Do you own FL 10 or did you steal it?

Well, I used to produce with the demo for a few months, and my friend saw how I was always stressed for time, so one day, he brought in a USB, and said "gimme that", and within 15 minutes I had the producer edition. So...I think it's the second one, although he claims that he bought the software fair and square. From whom, I have no idea...but yeah. .-.

Could you please provide the exact Error message? You may have to set up your BIOS to not instantly restart on a system failure.

Yes, my computer is 64-bit. Is FL Studio compatible, or do I need to run the extended memory version, or something else?

Unfortunately, I don't have administrator privileges on this computer. But I'll try my best to, like, take a picture or something tomorrow.

I'd say uninstall and reinstall.
Or you might just need to update it.
Run a chkdsk, that can fix some problems, replace messed up files.
Or, idk, buy it and call customer service.

Also, make sure you have the 64-bit version of FL.

While your personal troubleshooting team try to solve it, you could use another program to record. There are a couple good ones out there. Some free, others not.

I use an ancient version of Adobe Audition

Is LMMS a decent program?

Does it have a 'record' button?

Can it record microphone input?

Can it export sound?

Well, sounds decent enough to me.

Slight sidenote: You want to have the audio in as high quality as possible. If it can record and export Wav, you're all set. Even though Audicity would've worked just as good.

LMMS isn't what I would consider decent by any stretch of the imagination, and Audacity is quite bare-bones in of itself, but it depends on how complex the thing you want to record is, audio wise.

I can't imagine LMMS or Audacity being a lot worse than FL~

I can't really imagine them at all, but that's not really the point.

If you're not experienced enough in the programs or know their functions... why are you making these suggestions?

OP: Again, what is it you're trying to do exactly?

I'm trying to record multitrack. I have Audacity, but the effects are meh...
I was able to record with FL Studio before, and the result was cool, but I guess Windows got an update or something, and now some driver won't let me. My friend (the one who had the USB) doesn't even have a legit version of Windows 7, but he can record just fine. :?

It has nothing to do with WIndows. Firstly do you run the Debut capture software? If so, remove it, as that causes a conflict with ASIO. You should also revert your sound drivers then download the latest Microsoft certified drivers for your audio hardware, not the latest from manufacturer.

From what I understand, this is a conflict caused by NCH software being poorly coded. Beyond that, I can only recommend a system reinstall.

I assume that's rhetorical, but I don’t mind actually explaining.

It’s true; I have no real experience to contribute with. I therefore give what I have, and that being my ways of thinking, my philosophy. I give, to feel good about myself, feel like I’ve made a change. I’ve gained a lot of knowledge from this website and it’s community – I have to give something back. Perhaps now is not the right time.

I cannot see any difference between recordings in different programs, as it, to my ignorant mind, is basically the same process. The programs are just shells to contain the mechanism behind, and those are what matters. I’m probably wrong.

And, as a matter of facts, I’m trying to learn. Pick up what I can, and gain that experience.

I had an error like this with ASIO when my sound card wasn't making connection to the board. If you have a plugin and play sound card, make sure it is clean and properly seated (IE, pull it out, look at it, if it's dirty clean with q-tip and put it back in firmly..no joke :3) . Just a suggestion.

Another suggestion.. Try Reaper, it's basically free (it has an nag screen, like winrar, but has no limitations) and works with all VST. You might even just be able to rewire FL Studios plugins though it, provided that the source of the crash is just FL Studios accessing ASIO. http://www.reaper.fm/

*sighs* Guys, I've researched the issue. Please stop making guesses in the dark?

Tatch: Confirm for me first of all if you use Debut or anything from NCH, or if you run a Realtek soundcard/anything to do with soundtap (A Debut driver) on your system. If you do run Debut, remove it along with the soundtap driver it installed.

I had Debut a while back, but it didn't work for me, and I deleted it a couple of weeks ago.

Okay, check your computer for anything residual, search for the soundtap driver for it. It's quite possible it hasn't removed it entirely, and this would explain why your computer is having this issue.

I found something called a Soundtap Screen Recorder, but it's a shortcut and doesn't link to anything. Where should I look. Btw, thank you so much for your help so far, I really, REALLY appreciate it :)

I don't know. One place you can check is the system configuration. Go to the Run dialog and type msconfig, look in there. Also look in your device manager, and even a simple system wide search.
