Help creating a sound?

Postby KillerAmp » 29 Aug 2012 22:28

im want to make the sound that plays on 2 and 4 right in the beginning of the video. its a very soft sound that adds a seriously atmospheric effect to the track, but i have no idea where to start with this :S

I've been trying to recreate the track as well, i wish i knew what exactly he did with the synths. Im still far off, but with some work i might get it close.

I can post it up if anyone wants to hear?

Here, this is what i've been playing with.

Its not close to the original sound yet, few synths are missing, it's more like the starting point. I might turn this into a sort of "coverish" project, if i have the time.

for the sound i hear you somewhat replicated on ur version, on 2 and 4, how did you replicate it? like waveform/filters ect.
if i knew what you did i may be able to tweak it, and ur actually pretty close!

I made something similar with a slightly distorted sine wave and triangle wave played an octave apart. The triangle I pitched up and played at ~30% the volume of the sine. Turn up the release on the amp envelope and, lightly, drown it in plate reverb to give it atmosphere.

Mine is just an aproximation, but it was made with a saw oscillator with 2 voices, a bit of detune, retriger off. No different octaves, just 1 osc playing one note.

Then I turned decay up on amp envelope so it has that "plucky" sound, no sustain and some release. I filtered the saw down with low pass filter, and modulated the cutoff so it plucks a bit, basicly it closes down filter as the note plays. Then just wash it in reverb and a touch of eq here and there.
