Midi Controller Latency, Help Wanted

Postby the4thImpulse » 13 Aug 2012 15:02

Quick back story: I got a new computer eight days ago and am slowly setting it up and transferring files ect.. I'm now working on getting the drivers for my midi controllers and setting those up with Ableton and now I've run into a bit of a problem.

My old laptop would run my APC40 with next to no latency at all and now with my new one there is a noticeable delay, although very small its there and I don't like it. Does anyone know how I could fix this in any way?

The APC does not carry any audio signal so I know its not a simple ASIO problem, besides I always am running ASIO.

Midi itself normally has not a noticeable latency. You should look up your ASIO settings and check the buffer size. If it is too big, latency occurs. If this doesn't solve your problem or isn't your problem, reinstall the MIDI drivers.

I tried both these solutions before asking and neither of them helped and the internet searches have failed me. Do you have any other methods I could try?

Ableton, right?
You might try to play around with the Driver Error Correction.
Do you have any other Stand Alone synths/samplers to try out the APC either?

Your host may be applying some kind of plugin delay compensation or recording latency compensation that it shouldn't be?

Yes Ableton, and the DEC technique worked really good, the delay is on par with my old computer and other midi controllers so all is good now. Thanks a lot!

I thought DEC was only for ASIO and I figured the APC would have nothing to do with that, could you maybe explain a little bit about whats happening? I lack knowledge in this area.

Thanks for replying too prettiestPony.
