CREATIVE SLUMP. BLARG.

Postby Jimmy » 07 Aug 2012 09:42

I've allocated this month to be the most productive I can possibly make it. I've printed out myself a to-do list and stuck it on the wall beside my compy, with a little progress meter beside each item so I can keep track of how things are going. This is the same technique that I've used many times before and it has worked an absolute treat in the past, so I'm all set to do the seven or eight regular-length tracks this month that I've been requested to do. (By my Dooming buddies.)

Aaaaaand... I can't quite summon the creativity to pull it off.

I'm doing bits and pieces of various songs here and there but I can't get into the creative headspace that allows me to plow through songs from start to finish in a few hours' time. I'd really like to get my pace back up. Maybe I need to distract myself from the terrifyingly daunting task of completing a few tracks in the space of one month... or just change my mood or something. Ehh.

Any ideas?

Either you can, or you can't. You appearently made so many songs so quick already, that you have a lack of creativity/influence. Try to listen to more music, new music, different genres, something that can give you new ideas.

Test around with making melodies on the keyboard. When something sticks, run with it.

Yeah, let's not continue with that.

You shouldn't have to force creativity. Take a slight break now and then, even so for just half an hour. Do something else during that time. Do distract yourself.

Man, I'm such a hypocrite.
Constructive criticism is more than welcome. I embrace it.

Whenever I'm not feeling the current project I'm on, I just switch to another since I have like 20 laying around. I just repeat that until I have something that I can work with or quit and take a break out of pure frustration.
