VST Plug Ins with Ableton Live 8 Demo

Postby Slapshot » 26 Jul 2012 17:19

Hi there, I was recommended here because apparently you guys are super helpful! I hope you can help me figure out what I'm doing wrong when trying to get a vst plugin to work. I'm going to provide some details, so apologies if they're unimportant.

I'm using the Ableton demo right now. I looked for a folder to put this .dll vst plugin I downloaded, but there was no folder created for them (like I thought there would be.) So I created a folder, directed the plugins to that folder, hit scan, and nothing.

I've tried running the demo as an administrator, holding Alt and then pressing the scan button again, but to no avail. Re-installing the plugin didn't work either..

Am I just doing it wrong? I, of course, am at the low end of the noob meter when it comes to making music using Ableton, but if I could get a plugin working then I could find out if I have any shot of producing decent material.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give.

Hmm... It could be a lot of things I'll try to list some.

1. Make sure you are in the plug-in device browser.
2. In preferences make sure that the "Use VST Plug-In Custom Folder" is set to On.
3. Double check that the folder with the .dll is the one that Ableton is routing to.
4. If its not any of the above then likely something is wrong with the VST itself. Try using a different VST and see if it will work.

Most VST's by default install to the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\VST {If you have a non 64 bit OS then it would be C:\Program Files\VST . I'm pretty sure that Ableton by default scans for that folder as well. If you have a Mac, then I have no clue.
Well I'm pretty much done with this site (it wasn't about the April Fool's joke I actually loved that). If for some reason somebody wants to contact me or something (not like any of you even care lol):
