dubstep synths

Postby xadobex » 25 Jul 2012 23:30

hey guys :D
so i decided to make an mlp theme song dubstep remix, but i'm not too good with that whole dubstep-synth-bass sound, so i wanted to know what vst(i)'s you use for making a nice bass sound. i can do wubbing all right but the synths...not so much

currently i'm using the minimogue vsti, and "emerson's tarkus" as the patch (i think is what the proper term is :P)
dont hate because im using premades.
I make music but i'm not that good.

Any synth is good. The most popular one is Massive, for dubstep at least.

Right, NI Massive is user friendly and really open because everybody uses it, lot's of youtube tutorials too. The only problem is, it's massive, Combination of FL and this big ol synth just blows my harddrive to pieces.
There's some other good ones that can make dubstep synths, like Harmor, FM8...etc. You can make dubstep synths with any vst or whatever

I use sytrus for this kind of stuff, Just because it comes with the signicture bundle. it's a pain to work with due to the UI, but it can make nice sounds, especially if you layer the synths

If you avoid paying money, try out the itchy vst pack, pretty good stuff in there

My best dubstep bass to date actually used Harmor and a generous dose of effect plugins, chief among them WOW Filter. But everyone uses Massive, just because it's easy(sic) and user-friendly, but again, you're going to need to use effects liberally, because Massive on its own is rarely capable of standing as a good synth, unless you're one of the types so good at it that making presets is your job
Youtube -- Soundcloud -- Tumblr -- Bandcamp (new album out!)

I can't feel my brain.

I'm new to making wubs, and I've been experimenting in GarageBand (I don't always have access to my PC with FL). My best sound has come from taking the "deep round synth bass", turning the distortion all the way up, turning on the compressor at the default setting, and applying an automatic filter in the "down" setting with the top 2 sliders set to about 45. Does anyone else have any ideas for GarageBand?
