How to master as loud as possible?

Postby Jastrian » 20 Jul 2012 12:06

ok so im sure this has been asked many times so sorry. I notice that my songs are quieter than most. My mix is usually reasonable and nothing really peaks. I use ozone to master and I set the levels right before clipping in fl(when the bars turn solid). What do you guys do to maximize your volume?

1.) Put a brickwall limiter on the master track
1,5.) WARNING ADVANCED TECHNIQUE USE AT YOUR OWN RISK: Eq some frequencies in separate tracks away to give more headroom
2.) ???
3.) Profit

I use Ozone too and I have a strage feeling you have no idea how to use it (am I right?) (Did you even buy it?).

Anyway watch these tutorials on Ozone mastering by the people at Dubspot, these really helped me learn the program more.

After that keep messing around with it and you will get the hang of Ozone soon enough.

It's not like I have no idea. I have basic knowledge of compressors and limiters and have used several of the features in ozone, exciter, reverb some eq. Maybe im not compressing certain bands enough. I lower the threshold just enough to where it slightly compresses. But the thing I was not doing was placing a brickwall but I feel that might change the sound quite a bit dynamically. And ya I eq on individual tracks and remove whats not nessasry. Thanks for the vids though they are helpful.

Go for this, and we can make it a general tutorial on loud mastering. Kind of.
Constructive criticism is more than welcome. I embrace it.

I rarely make any sense when I post from my phone. And I post from my phone.
