Tips on Making Exporting Faster?

Postby Mush » 08 Jun 2012 18:29

Is there any known way to speed up the exporting process from FL

My computer just took 45 minutes to export about 2 minutes worth of audio into .mp3 format, and I am sure that's not right.

I would also like to know if it's my computer or not also, because if it is, I can just get a new one.

it really depeds on your computer speed and the amount/quality of synths you are using

Here's another tip: Don't export from FL straight into an .mp3, print .wav files and then convert them using something else, especially if you want to be able to master your tracks in a coherent manner. (Y'know, so that they all sound like they were made by the same person  )

seeing how you have tons of stuff going on and a poor clock speed if you want to get faster rendering speed id recommend upgrading your cpu if you can

Totally this. Don't convert right into an mp3. do a full wav first, convert in another program, and tag.

Didn't know I3's were that slow with 8g ram. That sucks. Again upgrading your cpu might not be possible if your motherboard, power suppy, etc were designed around it. Definitely do a task manager and see if you have any other apps runnign sucking up processing power as 45 min sounds outrageous for even a slower newer computer. I had a 2.4G P4 and 1.5G RAM pc as my first music pc and i didn't come close to those rendering times (although i did max it out all the time ).

Yeah, try exiting out of other programs to give more resources to FL. An i3 processor isn't going to get you very far, but it's not the worst thing ever.

Also, in the exporting options, there will be a drop down window that says "256-point sync" or something like that. Unless you're exporting a final version, drop that number down lower. It will mean slightly lower audio quality (or a slightly less faithful export -- I don't know the specifics of what it does) but it will mean a faster export. Save the higher numbers for when you're exporting a final product.

Lastly, when you're making your music, if you have a synth finalized and know you're not going to make any changes to it, bounce it to audio. You can still add other effects on top of it. Not only will this save processor power when playing back your music, it will make exporting faster because it just has to apply effects to an audio file instead of feeding MIDI notes into a plugin and calculating what they will sound like.

Reading this thread helped me a lot. (Even though I have no problems exporting, but it will certainly help for the future).

Also: I followed you on Tumblr Versil, because your sig told me to. :D

Export it out to WAV then download Foobar and use LAME to convert the file. Its what I do because Ableton can't export songs out to mp3.

"256-point sync" or something like that.

Just a FYI...
I think you're talking about sinc? That's for resampling. Rendering with the same quality as your system should bypass this and will speed up rendering. Basically it's about fixing the flaws which occur when changing audio quality. And the name of sinc function comes from Sinus Cardinalis (cardinal sine)

sinc(x) = sin(x)/x
