Hollow-sounding synths

Postby BinaryBludgeon » 02 May 2012 16:37

I want to create a powerful, hollow-sounding synth, that could function as a lead, for some future songs. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

"hollow-sounding synth" - I'm not sure what you mean by this, could you give examples of songs that have this sound in them?

Mainly TheLivingTombstone's remix of Party with Pinkie-- That's the sound I'm looking for...

It sounds to me like a ring modulated square wave with a low pass, highly resonant, filter with key tracking. Add some verb and distortion to bring out a bit of the mid end.

It blows my mind that you can just pick that out like that.

I will be honest I didn't know exactly how to make the sound but after a short little experimentation with my synth I was getting a similar result so what I wrote should get you started.

^ I've started to do things like this. If I hear a synth I like I'll try to remake it in a few VSTis before looking it up. If i can get close without a tutorial, I know I've learned something.

Woah... That was awesome. Thank you forever and ever.

[EDIT]: I tried to remake that, but made something different, and awesome. It's basically a synth that sounds different when you give it different chords.
