Need help with 3xOsc and Synth1

Postby itroitnyah » 24 Mar 2012 18:50

alright so I use LMMS (although I'm going to try and get a job and upgrade to something better) and the VST plugin Synth1. I can't find good instruments in the 9000 presets I have for Synth1, so I need help. I'm looking to try and get some good wubs out of both Synth1 and the 3xoscillator. oh, I also have a bunch of LADSPA effects (effects like amps, sweepers, phasers, etc...)

I'm mainly looking for wubs that are along the lines of what DjAlexS or Skrillex do, or somewhat close to either. That, and tips and tricks that can result in cool noises or wubs. Those tips and tricks are all I need and I'll build up off of those. If you have any questions about either of these tools, just ask

Here's what the Triple Oscillator looks like: Image

Here's what Synth1 looks like:

you need to learn how to use an lfo, or manually sweep the cutoff in an automation clip. The wub effect is done by manipulating the cutoff of a low pass filter on the bass. as for the effects, I don't know what kind of stuff you have for that in LMMS I use fl ten and I'm just learning how to use massive right now. I don't see an lfo or any filter options on the 3xosc and the second image didn't load. you should make a really dirty saw/pulse in the 3xosc and route it to a mixer channel, then apply the low pass filter as an effect. manipulating the cutoff will give you wubs.

Yup, I know that. Synth1 has an LFO built right into it, so I got that covered, and the 3xosc has a filer under the ENV/LFO tab. And I can get the effects and all. I can do a lot of this, but I always get a more "Grungy" type of sound, where I want something more smooth, something that is somewhat close to the wubs that alex s does.

And apparently LMMS and FLStudio aren't really that much different. They can run the same vst plugins, etc... Only difference is that Flstudio can run commerical instrument packs as well. I think...

Well Alex s uses Massive and It's got special effects and filters like something called "scream" I guess. It's got a lot of effects you can't easily duplicate in other programs. there's a reason why Massive is 200$ to buy LOL

Synth1 might be able to get some dubstep wobbles for you, but you're not going to be able to do everything inside the synth. The filter inside synth1 is meh at best, so it's best to leave the filter alone (crank the cutoff all the way up so it's not really filtering anything) and then use external filters and distortion to get the sound you want. It's going to be hard to do, though.

You could also try looking for some other VSTs, although beware of falling into the "collect 50,000 VSTs" mania. Synth1 is a pretty good versatile synth, but i think you'll definitely need to augment it with some other distortion/saturation/tubeamps.
