80s rock parody group: Band members wanted!!!

Postby Pickslide1992 » 23 Sep 2012 20:04

Hey guys. I've been sitting on this idea for a while, but now I want to put it out in the open. You know how there's those bands out there who are essentially 80s rock cover bands? Same principle here, but here's what kind of stuff we'd be working on:

Genuine 80s rock covers (With ponified lyrics)
MLP song covers in an 80s rock style
Community song covers (Again in the above style)
Maybe some original stuff

I'm asking for:

A lead guitarist (Preferably a shredder or someone who can handle fast leads. Feel free to improvise in lieu of an established solo)

Bassist (Any level of experience)

Drummer

Keyboardist (Possesses 80s styled pads when needed)

Singer (Someone who can handle a wide range from normal to falsetto, depending on the song)

If you think you qualify for any of these, let me know. I'm a rhythm guitarist, so that's why that's not listed.

As for songwriting, that'll be a collaborative effort, just like the songs. For the covers, we can discuss the direction we take the song (Like if we did a Motley Crue styled cover of Hush Now Quiet Now or an Iron Maiden styled cover of Loyalty).

If you're interested, reply to this thread and/or contact me on Skype at mr.generic. If you see the name, H.R. Bloodengutz appear, that's me.

Awesome! I failed to mention some songs might involve dueling leads, but once I get the group together we can talk about which songs would make great parodies.

But totally, you're welcome to join, man. You sound like a great candidate.

Vocalist. Will collab with anyone. Does singing, screams, and raps. Also dabbles in FL Studio. Writes lyrics. Self-advertising whore.

I really like this idea, but I'm not too sure I can do much as far as helping with it.

@Kyoga Certainly, man, welcome aboard.

@CaptainKBX What would you think is your best skill? Exposure is the hardest part, but I was thinking after our first track we send it to EqD and see what those badgers think about it.

If you ask one of my friends, he'd say my best skill is making music. I myself don't think I'm that great, though.

Add me on skype - captainkbx - and I'll show you some of my stuff

Is there any instrument you think you're good with? Or maybe you could help with promotion or songwriting? I'll find something for you, man. If you have interest for this, I will find you a spot.

Keyboard, mostly. I am not great at songwriting, to be honest. I sometimes sing as well, but I don't have a lot of confidence in that. (Or a very good mic)

I play drums :D, although I'm not sure if I'll have a decent way of recording them at the moment.
Well I'm pretty much done with this site (it wasn't about the April Fool's joke I actually loved that). If for some reason somebody wants to contact me or something (not like any of you even care lol):

I'm pretty good at drums, and have a good recording setup. I'm kinda busy, though, so I may not be able to help with songwriting at the moment.

That's nice, guys. In terms of helping with songwriting, really it's just choosing which songs would be good to parody and what should its subject matter be parody-wise.

And here is your bassist. Plenty of experience, although not much is needed for 80's rock.

You sure you don't want a second guitarist?

I swear Kyoga and I can play nice.

I also play in an 80's cover band as one of my jobs, so I'm kinda used to the styles from Madonna to Skid Row and whatever else.

Well, you do have the qualifications, though I would be doing rhythms. Then again, Iron Maiden had 3 guitarists.

1) My guitar playing is too modern of a style.
2) I have no recordings, and recording with the setup I have takes way longer than someone else.
3) What kind of 80s guitarist uses an 8 string guitar? The closest thing I can think of is John Petrucci on his 7 string, but that was the late 80s at best.
4) I can't rock. I can only metal.

If you want me to ruin the project, by all means hit me up. Maybe I can try to pull off some early Metallica or Iron Maiden riffs, but they might sound too heavy.

Thanks for vouching for me, Kyoga. Pickslide, you just let me know if you need me; I'd love to trade solos, play totally lame rhythms (a la Madonna or other pop people), or whatever else you need. And if you need a chick singer, I might be able to con Metal-Mary to do stuff, if you like.

Fun times, dude. So this would kinda be like a brony Steel Panther, or would the music be more varied?

If you need help with songwriting (re-writing old 80's tunes I'd love to help), pickign or finding tracks, or maybe finding some retro synths / pads i'd LOVE to help. I'm an 80's hound. Morte and I have been ponifying the whole Smiths catalog this last week and I've been an 80's aficionado all my life. There's a reason my gmail is freewavenewwave :)

I see your Smiths and I raise you a Sisters of Mercy. Heck, why not some New Order, Billy Idol and XMal Deutschland while we're at it.

Dude, the 80's had so many different kinds of popular music. It wasn't just one genre that was popular, but so many....dang it! Now I'm singing Tears For Fears!

Weird to think that U2 and Madonna were releasing stuff the same time as Michael Jackson and Slayer. Insane.

Do we have a Skype deal going?
